The games were played at the Victoria High School gymnasium as two supporting tresses of the roof beams of the Golden Bears Gymnasium collapsed. Oscar Kruger led the Bears with 20 and Norm Macintosh tossed in 18 over Manitoba’s tight defensive zone. Larry Jansen had a shot to win it with 15 seconds with a pair of free throws. He missed the first and then deliberately missed the second in an attempt to force a rebound tip-in but Norm Macintosh grabbed the rebound. Macintosh and Steed hit critical buckets down the stretch to pull out the win. Alberta led 33-31 at the half. Derril Butler added 10 for Alberta, while Al Tollestrup scored 9, John Dewar 4, Oscar Kruger 2 and Dave Steed 2, while Don Currie, Jim Munro, Frankie Smith, John Tweddle, Jack Kenyon and Ron Ghitter were scoreless.
