The Alberta Golden Bears were (4-0) in league play. They also captured the Edmonton city title by defeating the Edmonton Eskimos. The Bears later defeated Calgary and Raymond to win the provincial title. They lost by four at Raymond “but the Varsity squad ran up a 20-point lead in the last ten minutes of the hardest basketball game ever played in Edmonton and are thus the first holders of the Gillette Cup, emblematic of the provincial title.”
In Rigby Cup play, Alberta defeated host Saskatchewan 36-16 as Butchart scored 20, Necker 4, Conrad 4, Hamilton 4 and Manson 4, while York was scoreless. Brown led the Huskies with 8.
