In their opener, Canada clipped Jamaica 20-15. Paige Crozon said “it was the first time that this group of four players had played together so I thought we did a really good job of finding our rhythm and finding the strengths within our team and the actions that went really well.” Crozon added that the team demonstrated “toughness.” Katherine Plouffe paced Canada with 8 on 6-6 from the floor, 0-4 from the arc, 2-5 from the line and 6 boards. Paige Crozon added 7 on 4-7 from the floor, 1-4 from the arc, 1-2 from the line and 9 boards. Saicha Patrica Grant-Allen notched 3 on 1-1 from the floor, 1-1 from the arc and 2 blocks. Kacie Bosch scored 2 on 1-2 from the floor, 1-2 from the line and 3 boards. Canada hit 12-16 from the floor, 2-9 from the arc and 4-10 from the line, while garnering 21 boards, including 4 on the offensive glass, 4 blocks, 4 fouls and 5 turnovers. Canada closed out pool play at (2-0) by clocking Mexico 21-6. Paige Crozon said “a strength of this team and team Canada Basketball is just how committed we are to our defensive schemes and our defensive game plan. We rely heavily on being able to stop the ball and being disruptive to the other team’s offence – so I think that’s something that we always want to carry with us, no matter who we’re playing with.” Paige Crozon paced Canada with 11 on 1-4 from the floor, 5-9 from the arc and 6 boards. Katherine Plouffe added 5 on 5-6 from the floor and 4 boards. Saicha Grant-Allen notched 4 on 4-4 from the floor, 0-1 from the arc and 4 boards. In the quarterfinals, Canada spanked Cuba 21-12. Canada led 12-10 with four minutes to play when Paige Crozon drilled a pair from beyond the arc. She later added another as Canada iced the win. Paige Crozon paced Canada with 15 on 7-12 from the arc and 1-1 from the line. Katherine Plouffe added 6 on 4-5 from the floor, 0-2 from the arc, 2-2 from the line and 11 boards, while Kacie Bosch and Saicha Grant-Allen were scoreless. Bosch nabbed 2 boards. In the semis, Canada dispatched Brazil 18-11. Paige Crozon paced Canada with 8 on 2-4 from the floor, 3-6 from the arc and 4 boards. In the final, Canada edged the United States 19-18 in overtime. Canada led 17-15 with the clock expiring when Abbey Hsu drilled a bomb for the American to force overtime. Katherin Plouffe opened the extra session with a bucket. Brittney Sykes countered with a bucket for the Americans before Plouffe closed it out with the buzzer beating winner. “Feels great,” said Plouffe. “They were all the battles for sure…but we fought hard, and it’s a lot of fun when you win.” Tournament MVP Paige Crozon said “I took some time to think about my gaps and where I want to improve. If I’m being honest, the shots were falling this tournament, and that always feels nice.” Katherine Plouffe paced Canada with 11 on 6-10 from the floor, 1-3 from the arc, 3-4 from the line and 5 boards. Paige Crozon added 5 on 1-3 from the floor, 1-3 from the arc, 2-2 from the line and 4 boards. Saicha Grant-Allen notched 3 on 2-3 from the floor and 1-1 from the line, while Kacie Bosch was scoreless and nabbed 3 boards. Canada hit 9-19 from the floor, 2-6 from the arc and 6-7 from the line, while garnering 13 boards, including 3 on the offensive glass, 7 fouls and 6 turnovers. Brittney Chrisanti Sykes paced the United States with 9 on 7-9 from the floor, 0-3 from the arc and 2-3 from the line.
