Playing against an in-conference opponent, trying to beat someone three times and they’re a veteran team who has been playing well and been on a roll as well. We started off the game really strong, I thought our defence really held them. Then we just stopped being able to score. We had open looks, and their pressure really caused some difficulties, but I mean at the end of the day, our defence got it done. A few players really stepped up defensively and Gage [Grassick] was one steal away from a triple double. Having said that she didn’t have a great game by her standards, just didn’t shoot the ball as well as she does but Alberta had something to say about that too.” Tea DeMong paced the Huskies with 19 on 7-13 from the floor, 0-1 from the arc, 5-8 from the line, 6 boards and 3 steals. I thought the balanced scoring and the contributions from everyone on the team was impressive to watch. Andy [Dodig] was amazing, it’s one of the best games I’ve seen her play at exactly the right time. And then Ella [Murphy Wiebe] was a force, to see her athleticism on display out there was fun.” Thunderbirds coach Isabel Ormond said “they shot nearly 50% (43%) from the three-point line and an opponent we knew. We know they’re a great team, they have a very well deserved player of the year (Gage Grassick), they had other players step up like Andrea Dodig she totally stepped up and played the scout. So, it’s one of those bitter sweet moments where I think we played hard and I think we faced a great team that was good and super physical and dictated that, and that physicality was allowed to happen so it happened. I’m proud that we didn’t stop at all and that was the message if we’re going down and going to lose a game we are playing to the buzzer. It doesn’t matter who’s on the floor and I think when Olivia Weekes was out getting stitches the team stepped up and the team just went for it no matter what happens and we forced them to make some tough plays which they did.” Andrea Dodig paced the Huskies with 19 on 8-13 from the floor, 2-3 from the arc, 1-2 from the line, 3 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals.
