Olivia Leung said “with these being our first two games, I think there’s a lot to show with how much potential we have to be great. There’s still tons of room to grow as a team, and I’m confident we’ll keep getting better until the job is done.” Coach Marlo Davis said “whenever we jump out to a big lead, I think the main focus for us becomes being really good at the little things and finding spaces to be better.        Despite displaying a propensity to play hero ball, often driving the paint against 3 or 4 defenders and seemingly unwilling to pass the ball to open teammates, Canada (1st, pool A) eked out a 66-58 win over Mexico (4th, pool B). The win qualified Canada for a berth at the 2025 U19 World Cup to be held in Czechia. Canada led 24-17, 39-34 and 53-47 at the quarters and pulled out the win largely on the basis of a trio from beyond the arc by Jasmine Bascoe.        In the semis, Canada dusted Brazil 85-46 after leading 25-11, 45-20 and 65-33 at the quarters. “Every game has been a battle, and we knew that coming into this tournament, our main goal was to qualify [for FIBA U19 World Cup] because we’re thinking for the future,” said Jasmine Bascoe. “Now that we’ve qualified, we want to go for gold, and so just locking in and knowing that at 12 o’clock, it’s the next day. New game, new focus.” Nyadieng Yiech paced Canada with 21 on 4-6 from the floor, 3-5 from the arc, 4-5 from the line and 8 boards.
