In the semis, the top-seeded Winnipeg Dakota Lancers spanked the 5th-seeded Winnipeg Sisler Spartans 67-42 to improve their record to 21-0. Kyu Fust paced the Lancers with 19, while nabbing 8 boards. Abby Sweeny added 16, Darya Rom 10 and Jasia Hayden 10. “With having fans back and having a crowd and in a big game I think nerves are always going to be a factor,” Lancers coach Eric Sung told the Winnipeg Free Press. “But the kids are gritty and kind of stayed the course and stayed with the plan. We got it done. … It wasn’t pretty but we earned every basket that we got on Sisler. They work pretty hard on the defensive end against us. … Our shooting percentage wasn’t great today and it wasn’t great when we played FRC (in the quarterfinals). I think we’re able to get second-chance points and in games like this, it’s not always going to be pretty so you kind of just run your race and stay the course.” Alyssa Doneza led Spartans with 16.

In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Winnipeg Westwood Warriors dusted the 2nd-seeded Winnipeg St. Mary’s Academy Flames 71-56 as Anna Miko scored 22, Delany Galera 13 and Brook Schrader 12. Mia Banmann led the Flames with 30.

In the final, the top-seeded Winnipeg Dakota Lancers torched the 3rd-seeded Winnipeg Westwood Warriors 87-48 as Izzi Fust scored 28, Darya Rom 27 and tournament MVP Kyu Fust scored 15 and nabbed 10 boards. “Kyu was great, she’s been great all season,” Lancers coach Eric Sung told the Winnipeg Free Press. “She’s been steady for us and one of our most consistent players. Just a stat filler — she fills it all up in all different ways. She gets rebounds for us, gets assists for us. She scores. Rebounds. She does it all.” Fust said “we work hard and we work five days a week. It’s really good because we practise a lot and we are going to get better. I think it’s gonna be really scary next year for other teams.” The Lancers finished the season 22-0. They hit 36-81 from the floor and 10-22 from the arc. Sung said “teams prepared with zone defences and when we’re not making shots, it becomes a little bit easier for them on the defensive side. So once we kind of started making shots and stretched them out, you kind of saw the game change.” Sung added that the title was “more of a victory for Dakota basketball as a program. This is kind of something we’ve been building towards ever since I’ve been working at Dakota and that was my message to the girls. The alumni support and former staff and coaches’ support that these girls have been getting and the representation that they’ve done for the alumni, it’s been phenomenal. The majority of the games might have not been close, but I’m still coaching each athlete to better themselves and improve their basketball skills.” Anna Miko led the Warriors with 19, while nabbed 12 boards. Brooke Schrader added 10, along with 13 boards.
