Completing a multi-year transition from 1A to 2A to 3A and then to 5A, Reapers coach Atlee Simon told the Regina Leader-Post that “it really speaks to the culture of the school. Basketball has been really special to this school for as long as I can remember since I went there and now I’m teaching there. We take pride in that and these kids work extremely hard on the boys’ and the girls’ sides. We also have coaches that are invested in the kids. They understand that we can teach a lot of valuable lessons through sport and it’s not just about winning. It’s about hard work and playing for each other. You can teach them every lesson and it’s nice to win on top of that.” Younger brother Isaac Simon, who led all scorers, said winning a provincial title is “something that we’ll always remember,” Isaac Simon said. Oroma Bongomin said “we set the provincial title as a goal at the start of the season. We actually won everything that we set out to win. We won R.O.C.K. and the city championship and now this. … We have a lot of heart with only nine guys on our roster. It’s also how much gym time that Harvest City offers its students and we all take advantage of it. It’s crazy that we are punching way above our weight class.” Atlee Simon said “Isaac and I have been working on this moment for a long time. There were a lot of nights shooting in the driveway and a lot of late nights shooting in the school. I’m his biggest fan and his biggest critic. We have a bond that is going to last forever. This is just a memory that we’re going to hold on to forever.” Isaac Simon that Atlee is “my guy. This year is something that we’ll always remember and it will forever be part of our relationship. I’m just happy that we were able to have this year and have these memories together.” As a player, Atlee shared in five consecutive Hoopla championships, the last of which was celebrated in 2014. Harvest City has now won 11 boys titles at Hoopla. The Reapers captured eight 1A boys championships (2000, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) before earning gold medals in 2A (2013), 3A (2014) and 5A (2022).
