In the semis, the top-seeded McGill Redbirds defeated the 4th-seeded UQAM Citadins 77-71. The Citadins led 20-18 after one quarter. The Redbirds led 39-34 at the half and 55-51 after three quarters. Redbirds coach Ryan Thorne said “I don’t think that we played well, to our abilities and we made some careless mistakes and we’ve got to be better. That UQAM team is gritty and they fight and made it tough on us. I didn’t take anything for granted and never felt until the very end that it was over. … Sam (Jenkins) had some foul trouble but he got us going early with a couple of big threes. He’s a confident shooter and sometimes I think our guys shoot the three a little too quick but he knows when to pull it and my job is not to over-coach guys that are skilled. It’s to find opportunities to put them into positions to be successful. Maybe slow them down at times but you gotta let guys like Sam and Jamal (Mayali) go because they’re big time shot-makers.” Jamal Mayali paced the Redbirds with 21 on 6-18 from the floor, 2-6 from the arc, 7-8 from the line, 7 boards and 3 assists.
