       In pool A play, Russia drubbed Canada 87-52 despite 25 points from John McKibbon. Alexei Petrov, a 7-2 centre, scored all 11 of his points 11 as Russia built a lead in the first quarter, then rested its starters and coasted to the easy win. Aleksandr Travin paced Russia with 14. Mykola Bahlei added 9, Janis Krumins 8, Levan Moseshvili 8, Valdis Muiznieks 8, Juris Kalnins 7, Yury Korneyev 6, Jaak Lipso 6, Armenak Alachachyan 5, Vyacheslav Khrynin 3 and Gennady Volnov 2. Barry Howson added 8 for Canada, Keith Hartley 4, George Stulac 4, Rolly Goldring 3, Walter Birtles 2, Fred Ingaldson 2, Warren Reynolds 2 and Ruby Richman 2, while James Maguire and Joseph Stulac were scoreless.

        Canada fell 70-59 to Hungary despite 16 points from John McKibbon. Janos Racz paced Hungary with 17. Laszlo Gabanyi added 13, Janos Bencze 10, Pal Koczka 10, Jozsef Prieszol 6, Janos Greminger 4, Odon Lendvay 3, Gyorgy Polik 3, Miklos Bohaty 2 and Arpad Glatz 2.         Canada dropped its third straight as they fell 58-37 to Japan. The Japanese led 25-16 at the half and by as many as 21 in the second half. Yoshitaka Egawa paced Japan with 18. Fumihiko Moroyama added 12, Kunihiko Nakamura 8, Takashi Masuda 7, Setsuo Nara 5, Katsuji Tsunoda 4, Akira Kodama 3 and Kaoru Wakabayashi 1, while Nobuo Kaiho was scoreless. Fred Ingaldson led Canada with 16.         Canada fell 66-54 to Italy to drop to (0-4). Canada led 28-26 at the half but Italy opened with a 6-0 run and Canada never recovered. Gabriel Vianello paced Italy with 16.         Canada dropped its fifth straight after losing 78-68 to Mexico. The Canada scored only 18 points in the first half while Mexico tallied 47. Although Canada rallied to within 10, they faltered down the stretch as Mexico continued to dominate the boards, despite being smaller. Alberto Almanza paced Mexico with 24. Rafael Heredia added 20, Carlos Quintanar 20, Luis Grajeda 7, Armando Herrara 4 and Mario Pena 3, while Manuel Raga was scoreless. John McKibbon led Canada with 22. Warren Reynolds added 21, Barry Howson 13, Walter Birtles 4, Ruby Richman 4, Keith Hartley 2 and Fred Ingaldson 2, while Rolly Goldring, James Maguire, George Stulac and Joseph Stulac were scoreless.

        Canada was then pummelled 88-69 by Puerto Rico. Teo Cruz paced Puerto Rico with 20.         Canada closed out round robin play by dropping a 74-69 decision to Poland despite leading 42-32 at the half. Bohdan Likszo paced Poland with 23.         In the 13-16th semis, Canada nipped Peru 82-81 in overtime. Guard Warren Reynolds hit a bucket in the final seconds to force the extra session and then hit the winner in overtime. Canada led 43-28 at the half but Peru knotted the score at 64 with two minutes to play on a jumper by Enrique Duarte. The Peruvians took the lead on a pair of free throws by Jose Guzman with 15 seconds to play. But Reynolds forced the extra session by knotting the score at 73 with three seconds to play. Canada outscored Peru 9-8 in the extra session. John McKibbon paced Canada with 27. Reynolds added 25, Barry Howson 15, Keith Hartley 5, Walter Birtles 4, Fred Ingaldson 4 and Ruby Richman 2.         In the 13th place playoff, Hungary nipped Canada 68-65. Hungary took a 38-27 lead at the half but Canada rallied down the stretch, trimming the margin to two before Hungary pulled ahead by five heading into the final minute. Ruby Richman scored to cut the margin to three. Al Birtles led Canada with 15. Barry Howson added 12, Ruby Richman 10, Fred Ingaldson 10, Warren Reynolds 7, Rolly Goldring 6, John McKibbon 3 and Keith Hartley 2, while James Maguire was scoreless. Laszlo Gabanyi led Hungary with 22.
