The Whitehorse Porter Creek Rams folded their team mid-season.
In the final, the F.H. Collins Warriors clocked the Vanier Crusaders 92-44 to cap an undefeated season and capture their fifth consecutive title. The Warriors full-court pressure invariably led to transition runouts as they dominated from the start. Warrior guard and tournament MVP Maren Bilsky told the Whitehorse Star that “I feel amazing, there is no other way to say it. I love my team, of course love my coach, we came so far. Even though we played against one team I thought we did amazing.” Bilsky added that familiarity proved an asset. “We know all their habits which made it a little bit easier. At the same time, they know all of yours so you are learning all the time. … Pressing is one of the most underrated things in the entire game. Fakes and pressing. A press can give you the biggest jump in score and that’s all you need to keep on going. … I realized after we won this tournament that we haven’t lost a game this season,” said Bilsky. “It’s not like its been easy. It’s been a lot of hard work, and a lot of running, a lot of mornings. It was 100 per cent worth it.” The Warriors led 35-11 at the half.
The all-tournament team featured MVP Maren Bilsky (F.H. Collins); Alyssa Cuezna (Vanier); Nicole Farkas (Vanier); Jaelene Minguito (F.H. Collins); Emma Boyd (F.H. Collins); and Paige Seeley (F.H. Collins*).
