JoAnne Wells led Nova Scotia with 25. Erin McDiarmid added 17 and Julie Galipeau 15. The Bluenosers trailed by 10 with five minutes to play. “They had a chance to pack it in, but they did a great job and hung together,” said coach Scott Munro. “We have the core of last year’s team back and we knew if we believed in each other, good things would happen.” …………………………………………………… Nova Scotia defeated Newfoundland 84-56 as JoAnne Wells scored 13, Julia Galipeau 12, Trisha Cormier 12 and Lindsay Walsh 9. Nova Scotia led by 3 at the half. “They were feeling good about beating out B.C.. They were hoping Newfoundland would go out and lay down for them. They had a really good second half,” said Nova Scotia coach Scott Munro. The Bluenosers held Newfoundland to two points in the first 10 minutes of the second half. …………………………………………………… Nova Scotia thrashed Manitoba 74-63 to close out round robin play undefeated. Julie Galipeau led Nova Scotia with 17. JoAnne Wells added 14 and Lindsay Walsh 11. Manitoba (coached by Bryan Kornberger, assisted by Karla Gould) included Leanne Turner, Margot Plews, Anna Drewniak, Melissa Stoesz, Kirsten Davies, Marsha Murdock, Cara Braun, Tseghereda Andu, Heather Thompson, Angela Willerton, Lisa Bodnarus, Teresa Hildebrand and Ryanne Schaefer.

        In the semis, Quebec defeated Nova Scotia 72-63 after leading 35-24 at the half. JoAnne Wells paced Nova Scotia with 22. Trisha Cormier added 13 and Lindsay Walsh 12. “Quebec was pretty fired up coming out,” said Nova Scotia coach Scott Munro. “They had the home crowd behind they and they got up about eight pretty quick. We hung around after that, gutted it out but we couldn’t get any close than six. Quebec shot the ball exceptionally well. It wasn’t a case of us playing bad.”

        In the other semi, British Columbia upset Ontario 75-64.

        In the 7th place playoff, Newfoundland nipped New Brunswick 63-60. Newfoundland & Labrador (coached by Paul Byrne, assisted by Melissa Skanes) included Kate Flynn, Nikki Rogers, Cassandra Browne, Kerri Highmore, Joanne McNeil, Cathy Alcock, Sandi Ennis, Katie Mulcahy, Jenine Vickers, Heather Dawe, Laura Churchill and Erica Stokes. New Brunswick (coached by Pauline Lordon, assisted by Jim Walters) included Kari McArdle, Jill Boucher, Heidi McLellan, Bev Kennedy, Grace Piercy, Ali McGill, Rachel Poley, Katie Gammon, Lindsay Myers, Erin McAleenan, Carolyn Plummer and Jessica Arsenault.

        In the 5th place playoff, Alberta edged Saskatchewan 81-74. Alberta (coached by Trish Lorenz, assisted by Andrea Hlady) included Naomi Manint’veld, Cristi Allan, Kelly Barrett, Karen Debbink, Libby Miller, Amanda Smith, Misty Watson, Anna Bekkering, Laura Jablonski, Heidi Somerville, Renee Smid, Logan Dunning and Heidi Dennis. Saskatchewan (coached by Lisa Thomaidis, assisted by Dave Taylor) included Cymone Bouchard, Lauren Evans, Becky Brockman, Jodi Bevan, Leah Anderson, Nicole Poler, Lisa Glemser, Rumali Werapitiya, Sara Knowles and Jessica Kaczowka.

        In bronze medal match, Nova Scotia exploited Ontario’s lack of interior defence and indifference to rebounding to register an easy 66-48 win. Nova Scotia’s man-to-man defence completely stymied Ontario. “It wasn’t even close,” said Nova Scotia coach Scott Munro. “It was the best game we played all week. We knew who we had to stop. We keyed on their two best players and we did a good job shutting them down. We fed off our defence early. They had a lot of defensive intensity. But they couldn’t score early. We settled in and they still struggled.” Julie Galipeau scored 19, JoAnne Wells 19, Trisha Cormier 11 and Erin McDiarmid 9 for Nova Scotia. Jessica Kemp scored 9 for Ontario. Sarah Zagorski added 7, Dawn Cressman 7 and Kelly Vernelli 7. Ontario (coached by Kelly Dunham, assisted by Pam Leitch and Tim Baulk) also included Michelle Crowley, Katie Coulson, Julie Hillis, Tierney Hoo, Anna James, Alana Juzenas, Morgan McLaughlin and Vanessa Nobrega.

        In the gold medal match, Caroline Roger scored 17 to lead Quebec past British Columbia 53-40. Quebec led 29-22 at the half. BC rallied to tie it at 31. But Caroline Roger hit a bucket with 11:30 to play to trigger a 19-3 Quebec run that put the game out of reach. Anouk Boulanger added 8 for Quebec. Chantale Bellavance scored 7, Isabelle Provencher 4, Melissa Langelier 4, Glhansy Bonhomme 4 and Caroline Saint-Pierre 4. Lindsay Anderson paced BC with 15. Julie Smulders added 11, while Shelia Townsend, Darci Arsene and Carrie Watson each scored 3.
