In the Alberta finals, the Medicine Hat Crescent Heights Chinooks captured a four-team round robin with a (3-0) record. In the game against the runner-up Calgary All-Stars, the Chinooks prevailed 52-37 as Kathy Wiley scored 20. The Chinooks had captured the provincial AAA high school title earlier in the season. The Chinooks (coached by Trevor Slack) also included Joanne Myrol; Pam Mann; Cindy Kromm; Janis Hirsch; Dorothy Howlett; Cheryl Fortier; Jane Cameron; Sally Massini and Sandy Stevenson.
The Canadian Basketball Association did not run a national tournament because basketball was being staged at the Canada Winter Games, in a competition involving university teams.
