Wendy Martin led the Queens with 12. Marlene Prediger added 6 and Bev Shalin 6. …………………………………………………… The Lethbridge Chinooks clubbed the Mount Royal College Kittens 71-25 as Leona Voth scored 18, Minnie Van Dieren 9 and Sharon Giduck 9. Linda Rolheiser led the Kittens with 13. …………………………………………………… The Red Deer College Queens dispatched the Mount Royal Kittens 54-49 as Lois Harmeister scored 14, Marlene Prediger 13, Bev Shalin 9 and Bobbi Ryley 5. The Queens (coached by Ken Cahoon) also included Nancy Depner and Linda Moore (both of whom were ineligible because the were over age 21), Kathy Grimson (injured) and Donna Knott (an addition from Olds). Karen Mitchell led the Kittens with 20. Mary Hamilton added 8 and Kathy Bardgett 6.

        U.B.C. defeated Victoria First United in the British Columbia playoffs but the latter received an invite from CABA so the draw could be expanded to four teams.

        In the nationals, the U of Lethbridge Chinooks edged U.B.C. 46-45 as Leona Voth scored 19. The game was tied at 40 with a minute to go. The Chinooks prevailed though star Minnie Van Duren fouled out with 10 minutes to play. B.C. was led by Jeannie Ball’s 22 and Linda McCulloch’s 13.

        Victoria First United pasted the Ottawa Rievers 76-42 as Trish Hadfield scored 22, Anne McKeachie 17, Gail Piatelli 13, Sharon Kinghorn 7, Lydia Gledhill 6, Judy Pearson 5, Carole Morrisey 4 and Barb Halberg 1, while Margo Robbie and Lynette Wren were scoreless. Debbie Cross led the Rievers with 9. Lynn Hiller added 8, Alice Liebeck 8, Pat Chapman 7, Carol Kiefel 4, Sue Tam 4 and Sue Berry 3, while Marion Murphy was scoreless. Vic led 35-23 at the half.

        UBC defeated Victoria First United 45-28 as Pat McGuire scored 14 and Judy Hanemayer 10. Anne McKeachie scored 10 for Victoria.

        Lethbridge defeated the Ottawa Rievers 70-59 as Minnie Van Duren scored 22, Rosemary Broderick 13, Leona Voth 12 and Linda Voth 12.

        The U of Lethbridge defeated Victoria First United 51-40 as Leona Voth scored 18 and Linda Voth 15. Lethbridge was up 26-22 at the half and Vic closed to within two with 7 minutes to go but then the Chinooks took control. First United was led by Judy Pearson’s 9, Trish Hadfield’s 6, Sharon Kinghorn’s 6 and Gail Piatelli 6. “It was one of the most exciting moments of my life,” Lethbridge coach Wilma Winter said of winning the title.

        U.B.C. thumped Ottawa 70-34 as Trish Yard scored 12, Linda McCulloch 10, Elaine Owen 10 and Lorene Moffet 10. The Rievers were led by Debbie Cross, who scored 7. Anne Liebeck added 6 and Mary Murphy 6.
