The old A, B & C tournaments are replaced with three new classifications. R for regional and L and M for Large and Medium schools. Schools were allowed to elect up a division.
In the quarterfinals, the Back Bay Bruins clipped the Hartland Huskies 24-15 as L Hooper scored 10, Cook 4, Matthews 4, F Dick 2, D Dick 2, Leavitt 1 and Wentworth 1. The Bruins led 7-3, 11-9 and 13-6 at the quarters. H Plummer led the Huskies with 6. Smith added 4, Lavigne 2, Campbell 2 and J Plummer 1, while Hovey, Smith, Nicholson and Pratt were scoreless.
The St. Stephen Spartans whipped the Bathurst Phantoms 52-23 (52-35?) as Scullion scored 17, Nicholson 15, Lister 9, Campbell 4, Fitgerald 3, Fitzmaurice 3 and Jackson 1. The Spartans led 13-7, 26-12 and 40-18 at the quarters. Campbell led the Phantoms with 17. White added 3, Hatheway 2 and Hodgins 1, while Taylor, George Burtt, Faulds, Jennings, Hatheway and Pierce were scoreless.
The Saint John Simonds Seabees clipped the McAdam Warriors 32-19 as Frauley scored 12, Chamberlain 4, Goldein 4, Armstrong 4, Smith 4, Hennessey 2 and Bishop 2. The Seabees led 8-3, 14-4 and 22-11 at the quarters. Guptell scored 15 to lead the Warriors (coach Gerry Dryden). Thorburn added 4, while Feeney, Knox, Dowe, McGuire, Campbell and Golding were scoreless.
In the last quarterfinal, the Plaster Rock Tobique Valley Panthers nipped Newcastle Harkins 20-18 as Wright 8, Ridgewell 7, Bucci 2, Aiton 2 and Clark 1. Bell scored 4 to pace Newcastle (coach R Neven, manager P Harrington). Ronan added 4, Taylor 4, G Burns 3, Ramsay 2 and Anderson 1, while Fogan, R Turns, Galley and Suthard were scoreless. Harkins led 4-3, 11-9 and 16-11 at the quarters.
In the semis, the St. Stephen Spartans torched the Back Bay Bruins 77-19 after leading 16-5, 43-9 and 58-15 at the quarters. Nicholson led the Spartans with 26. Fitzmaurice added 17, Scullion 14, Cook 4, Fitzgerald 4, Purcell 4, Campbell 4, Lister 2 and Jackson 2. L Hooper paced the Bruins with 8, Cook added 6, Dick 4 and H Hooper 1.
In the other semi, the Saint John Simonds Seabees clipped the Plaster Rock Tobique Valley Panthers 50-43 as D Hersey scored 16, Chamberlain 12, Frauley 8, Smith 5, Golding 4, Fleiger 2, Thomas 2, Armstrong 1 and Williams 1. The Seabees led 25-4, 34-16 and 40-23 at the quarters. Wright le the Panthers with 24. Ridgewell added 11, Lloyd 4, Aiton 2 and Bucci 1.
In the final, the St. Stephen Spartans defeated the East Saint John Simonds Seabees 59-22 as Nicholson scored 26, Scullion 15, Campbell 6, Fitzmaurice 6, Lister 3, Cook 2 and Jackson 1. Hersey led the Seabees with 7. Smith added 6, Frauley 4, Chamberlain 4 and Williams 1.
The all-tournament team featured Fred Nicholson (St. Stephen); Ron Lister (St. Stephen); Dick Campbell (St. Stephen): Carl Scullion (St. Stephen); and George Burtt (Bathurst).
