In the quarterfinals, the 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats clubbed the 7th-seeded Riverview Royals 83-48 as Campbell scored 25, Cashion 12, Oldham 8, Miller 8, VanWart 7, Seagrave 6, Green 6, McMullin 5, Bouwer 4 and Thomas 2. Neil LeBlanc led the Royals with 16. Steve Beaumont added 12, Steve McTavish 7, Tim Irvine 5, Jeff Auclair 3, Andrew Trenholm 2, Andrew Noseworth 2 and Dwight Balser 1.
The 3rd-seeded Oromocto Blues dusted the 6th-seeded Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 100-34 as Wood scored 28, McMorran 24, Hindson 18, Fraser 10, Grace 9, Bucket 5, McDonald 4 and Symonds 2. Jeff Mowatt led the Trojans with 13. Ron McFadden added 10, Derek Weatherbee 9, Jeff Smith 9, Rob Kelly 7, Pat Larocque 5 and Sean LeBlanc 1.
The 4th-seeded Sussex Sonics clipped the 5th-seeded Miramichi James M. Hill Tommies 89-81 as MacQuarrie scored 38, Charters 17, Mason 10, Stewart 8, Hourihan 8, Ryan 4 and Belding 4. John Corlett led the Tommies with 42. Chris McCarthy added 15, Mark Blakely 6, Troy Ross 6, Jimmy McLaughlin 6, James Curran 4 and Jeff Gillis 2, while Dwane Sweeney was scoreless.
In the last quarterfinal, the top-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders dispatched the 8th-seeded Saint John Greyhounds 89-76 as Elliott scored 17, Moore 16, Armstrong 14, Messer 14, Darling 13, Johnston 4, Jackson 4, Klassen 3, Small 2 and French 2. Artie Delaney led the Greyhounds with 22. Mike Tilley added 20, Dave Vincente 11, Dave McGrattan 10, Steve Robson 7 and Keith Rourke 6, while Malcolm Beals was scoreless.
In the semis, the top-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders spanked the 4th-seeded Sussex Sonics 72-50 as Elliot scored 20, Klassen 14, Messer 10, Armstrong 10, Darling 7, Moore 7 and Johnston 4. The Crusaders led 38-29 at the half. Charters led the Sonics with 21. MacQuarrie added 12, Hourihan 10, Ryan 3, Belding 2 and Stewart 2.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats nipped the 3rd-seeded Oromocto Blues 65-62 as Campbell scored 20, Cashion 14, Oldham 13, VanWart 6, Bouwer 4, Smith 3, Miller 2 and Seagrave 2. Grace led the Blues with 19. McMorran added 18, A Wood 11, Fraser 10 and Hindson 4. The Blues led 44-38 at the half.
In the final, the top-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders whipped the 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats 66-46 as Elliott scored 19, Moore 16, Messer 12, Klassen 10, Armstrong 4, Darling 3 and Johnston 2. Crusaders coach Peter Corby told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “it’s been a lot of years for me. I’ve been at this a long while and I just wish (former Black Kats coach Rick Cotter) was at the other end. But’s nice to beat Fredericton any time. … They didn’t think that we could shoot from outside on this floor. We didn’t even get Mr. Elliott into the offence and we didn’t need to. We have of kids on this team that can play.” The Crusaders, who finished (21-4) on the campaign, hit 13-29 from the line. Oldham led the Black Kats with 14. VanWart added 13, Cashion 8, Campbell 4, Miller 2, Smith 2 and Thomas 2. Black Kats coach Greg Gould said “at one point, we missed a couple of shots and a couple of free throws, or we could have the lead down to nine. At that point, there was five minutes left and anything could have happened. But they’re a very good basketball team and give them the credit they deserve.”
