In the quarterfinals, the Saint John St. Malachy’s Memorial Saints nipped the Moncton Purple Knights 61-60 in overtime. Mike Sullivan forced the extra session with a bucket and then notched the winner in overtime. Arsenault led the Saints with 16. Breen added 15, MacNeill 12, Sullivan 8, Lindsay 6, Martin 2 and Doherty 2. Ron Rattray led the Purple Knights with 18. Don Mersereau added 10, Campbell 8, Ron Battis 6, Dave Berridge 6, Bourque 6, Raegele 6 and Don (Dom?) Stewart 6, while Alcorn and Dael were scoreless.
The Fredericton Black Kats dusted the Woodstock Thunder 72-29 as Coates scored 24, Mitton 10, Crandlemire 7, McMullin 7, W White 6, K McMullin 5, Thorne 3, Harding 2 and Keeling 2. G Lenehan paced the Thunder with 6. Herb Depow added 5, Eric Wheeler 5, Billings 4, D Lenehan 3, W Reardon 2, Stewart 2 and R Reardon 1, while J Lenehan was scoreless.
The St. Stephen Spartans clocked the Campbellton Tigers 67-36 as Russell scored 17, Pierce 10, Lindsay 7, Haley 7, Crompton 6, Canadan 5, Ganong 5, Ensor 4 and Messer 1. Ralph McCully paced the Tigers with 13. Day added 6, MacFarlane 6, Comeau 5, Cecil Hume 4 and Lonnie Duncan 2, while Gallant, McIntyre, Turgeon and Kierstead were scoreless.
In the last quarterfinal, the Saint John Greyhounds spanked Moncton Vanier 55-27 as Chapman scored 10, Simms 10, Steen 9, Laws 8, B Chapman 4, Forsythe 4, Anderson 4 and Gould 4. Paul Bourque led Vanier with 10, Robert LeBlanc added 8, Raymond Cormier 3, D Bourque 2, Goguen 2 and Ouelllete 2, while Clark, Gallant and Daigle were scoreless.
In the semis, the Saint John Greyhounds edged the St. Stephen Spartans 57-54 as D Chapman scored 31, Anderson 10, Forsythe 9, B Chapman 4 and Steen 3. Lindsay led the Spartans with 18. Pierce added 17, Russell 8, Ensor 4 and Haley 2.
In the other semi, the Fredericton Kats mauled the Saint John St. Malachy’s Memorial Saints 81-39 as Coates scored 23, White 21, T McMullin 7, Bonnell 6, Crandlemire 6, Mitton 5, Thorne 5, K McMullin 4, Keeling 2 and Harding 2. Breen led the Saints with 18. Sullivan added 7, Arsenault 6, Macneill 3, Martin 2, Lindsay 2 and Doherty 1.
In the bronze medal match, the St. Stephen Spartans clubbed the Saint John St. Malachy’s Memorial Saints 61-33 as Russell scored 17, Pierce 13, White 11, Ensor 11, Driscoll 5 and Lindsay 4. Gary Breen paced the Saints with 9. Pat Arsenault added 8, Dave MacNeill 4, Lindsay 4 and Mike Sullivan 2, while Martin, Doherty, Nadeau, Makerson, Murphy Duguay and Lindsa were scoreless.
In the final, the Saint John Greyhounds defeated the Fredericton Black Kats 39-27. Saint John holds Fredericton to one point in the final quarter. Dwight Chapman led the Greyhounds with 16. Forsythe added 12, Anderson 8, Steen 2 and Simms 1. Greyhounds coach Bunky Good told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “we couldn’t play full court with them with Chapman (four fouls in the first half) sitting on the bench. So we just stalled and kept them in their own defensive zone.” Crandlemire led the Black Kats with 9. T McMullin added 9, White 5, Bonnell 3 and Mitton 1.
