Miller hit 5-6 from the line in the final 1:22 to pull out the win for the Spartanettes. It was the final game of 29-year career for Spartanettes coach Ron Dosdall. Miller told the Regina Leader-Post that “we wanted to win for ourselves but it was really important for him too. This was the final go for the rest of us. WE have a lot of seniors on our team, so this was our final chance. We’ve worked for this the last three years of our lives. It was our goal and all we thought about.” Dosdall coached the Meadow Lake boys to AA titles in 1973 and 1976, and the girls to three AAA crowns in 1978, 1987 and 1991. Dosdall said “I told the girls the first team I ever coached went 32-0 (boys in 1973). I started with a great team and I wanted to end with a great team. That was our goal all year and that’s what happened.” The Spartanettes led 33-26 at the half. But Vanier rallied to within 60-59 before Miller started draining free throws. Karie Barker and Jennifer Johnson each notched 16 to pace the Spirits. Roberta Sagal added 11, Janice Leister 7, Cory Haag 6, Erin Boese 2 and Yvonne Thiele 1. Patterson told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that “I wanted to be there at the end (but fouled out with six minutes to play) but the girls hit their free throws and won it. We’ve worked so hard and I can’t think of anything better.” Spirits coach Greg Reidy told the Leader-Post that “we had it at one point late in the game. It was a matter of how the ball fell. We fought hard and played hard. We beat some good teams to get to this point. They were well-prepared and well-coached. They executed against our pressure and that was the difference in the game.”
