In the semis, the Swift Current Ardens defeated the Weyburn Eagles 93-63 as Wilma Gerlach scored 22, Les Treen 20, Tracy Bragg 17 and Dawna Wall 13. Laura Jacob led the Eagles with 19, while Belinda McIver hit 16 and Monique Chapdelaine 10.
In the other semi, North Battleford Convent of the Child Jesus defeated the Humboldt Mohawks 53-36 after opening with a 16-5 run. Karen Kozlowski hit 16 for Convent of the Child Jesus. Alison Shand added 12. Pam Henning paced Humboldt with 11. Laura Wegleitner hit 9.
In the bronze medal match, the Weyburn Eagles clocked the Humboldt Hawks 85-64 as Laurie Jacob scored 31.
In the final, the Swift Current Ardens pounded North Battleford Convent of the Child Jesus 83-28 after opening with a 12-0 run and taking a 33-4 lead after the first quarter. The Ardens led 46-10 at the half. Dawna Wall led the Ardens with 18. Tracy Bragg added 15, Wilma Gerlack 12, Les Treen 10, Martinson 8, Look 6, Thistlethwaite 4, Knutson 3, Hildebrand 3, Dirkywager 2 and Grainer 2. Dianne Richard led Covent of the Child Jesus with 8. Allison Shand added 7, Wickenheiser 4, Graw 3, Trautman 2, Kozlowski 2 and Helmink 2. Ardens coach Marg Kissick told the Regina Leader-Post that seniors Wilma Gerlach, Tracy Bragg and Dawna Wall were “exceptional. Our game is a pressing fastbreak game. There were some rookies out there and I wanted to see what they could do. The press was taken off and as far as I’m concerned, that’s not the way the game should be played. The game should be pressing and man-to-man. But at no time do I ever set offensive goals. We set defensive goals, to hold the opposition under 20, 30 or whatever. Actually, I thought it would be closer. You expect that when you get to the provincial final.”
