Karen McLeod led the Spartans with 11, including 3-4 free throws in overtime. Renee Robertson added 11. The Ardens led 11-10 after one quarter. The Spartans Ardens led 21-19 at the half and 30-28 after three quarters. The score was knotted at 26 after regulation. The Ardens (coached by Marg Currie) included Anne Kilcher, Diane Rittinger, Yvonne Reid, Carolyn Elias, Judy Hymers, Brenda Sakata, Joan Leier, Patty Smith, Debbie Peters, Elaine Jeffery, Lorraine Loeppky and Frankie Smit.

        In the provincial semis, the Saskatoon Nutana Collegiate Blues defeated the Yorkton Regional Raiders 49-39 as Donna Hunter scored 15 and Debbie Nelson 11. Pat Nicholson grabbed 13 rebounds and Irene Hawrysh nabbed 11 boards. Diana Boychuk led Yorkton with 15 points. Yorkton was ahead 21-17 at the half and the teams were tied at 34 at the three-quarter mark. Yorkton also included Candice Valichka, Dale Bode.

        In the other semi, the Regina Sheldon-Williams Spartans defeated Prince Albert Technical Tigerettes 57-37.

        In the provincial final, Nutana nipped the Regina Sheldon-Williams Spartans 47-46 as Karen Taylor hit the free throw in the final minute of play. Nutana trailed from the start. They were down 14-7 at the quarter, 25-17 at the half and 39-34 at the three-quarter mark. But they outscored Sheldon Williams 13-7 in the final frame after being down by 11 early in the fourth quarter. The rally was triggered by a series of turnovers off the press. Debbie Nelson led Nutana with 13 points. Irene Hawrysh scored 12 and grabbed 11 rebounds. Lynn Skolrood scored 10 and grabbed 11 rebounds, Donna Hunter 6, Noreen Johnson 3 and Karen Taylor 3. Bernie Britton led Sheldon-Williams with 15. Robin Frame added 10, Donna Bruce 8, Renee Robertson 8, Jill McFarlane 4 and Karen McLeod 1. Nutana coach Dianna Duerkop told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that Skolrood went “wild” when the team trailed by 11. Skolrood “took away Sheldon’s advantage on the backboards. When this happened, I switched to a full court press and things started to happen …the more we used it, the better it worked.” Bedford Road tied the game with minute and a half to go. Then Karen Taylor hit one of two free throws to give Nutana the lead for good. In the first half, Sheldon-Williams’ Rene Robertson, Donna Bruce and Bernie Britton had controlled the boards. Nelson scored 6 of Nutana’s last 13 points.
