In the semis, the Regina Thom Trojans dispatched the Weyburn Eagles 75-64 as Bree Burgess scored 20, Corrin Wersta 20, Christa Howie 12, Debbie Lozinski 9, Michelle Evans 6, Trishia Belay 4, Natasha Finell 2 and Tessa West 2. Nicole Sarchs paced the Eagles with 23. Emily Mitchell added 12, Pat Georgacacos 9, Amanda Steer 6, Sarah Dufour 6, Shay Obst 3, Marissa Abao 2, Adine Oxelgren 2 and Dawn Beach 1. Burgess told the Regina Leader-Post that Wersta’s ankle injury in the first half didn’t constrain the Trojans. “She is a very bit part of our team but I have confidence in our bench. They don’t get in much but when they do, they’ve got stuff to prove and I think they proved it. … It makes everybody realize how important they are to the team. If it wasn’t for everyone playing well, with Corrin out, we couldn’t have won.” Eagles coach Len Williams said “they could have folded their tents when Corrin went down. Instead, they stepped up. I thought we’d jump up and take control there. We could never put anything together back-to-back. They played great defence. We didn’t shoot well, especially in the second half.”
In the other semi, the Regina Sheldon-Williams Spartans clocked the Saskatoon Holy Cross Crusaders 78-63 as Lindsay Stuart scored 18, Heather Dedman 17, Crystal Heisler 15, Maija McCauley 14, Becky Poley 12 and Evelyn Ganshorn 2. In the final, the Regina Sheldon-Williams Spartans defeated the Regina Thom Trojans 79-51 as Lindsey Stuart scored 22, Crystal Heisler 21, Becky Poley 16, Heather Dedman 13, Amanda Kulych 3, Lise Hantelman 2 and Maija McCauley 2. Christa Howie led the Trojans with 21. Bree Burgess added 19, Corrin Wersta 4, Michelle Evans 2, Trishia Belay 2, Tessa West 2 and Karen Wilde 1. Stuart told the Regina Leader-Post that “when we think back to all the running and everything, it was all worth it. We talked before the game about being a team and how we would probably never play on a team like this again. We wanted to win it for each other. … We all grew up together. That’s what makes it so much more special.” Spartans co-coach Dave Taylor said “it seems every time there’s a big game, they seem to rise to the occasion. It caps off a nice five-year run.” Trojans forward Corrin Wersta sprained an ankle in the semis and only spot duty. Thom coach Shari Gebhard said “I wanted her to play but she couldn’t box out and we couldn’t run our press.” The Spartans led 40-26 at the half and when Trojans guard Bree Burgess fouled out, Sheldon-Williams iced it with a 24-7 run down the stretch. Trojans forward Christa Howie said “it was fate. We have all the skills and all the players. It just never works out in the end.”
