Then Sharon Kleckner hit insurance field goal with 20 seconds to play. Bedford Road coach Irene Wallace told the Regina Leader-Post that “I think we probably took a lot of people by surprise, maybe even ourselves. We expected a physical game. I thought we’d be out-hustled on the boards but the kids didn’t do a bad job of blocking on the boards.” Sheryl Kleckner, Sharon Kleckner and Marj Kerr each scored 13 for Bedford Road. Judy Clarke scored 14 to paced Central. Donna Von Hagen added 13 and Brenda Nattrass 7. Gophers coach Laurie Burgess said “Bedford Road played a good game; my kids tried as hard as they could. Lori Kozicki led Marian with 17. Lynn Kozicki added 13 and Debbie Morton 10. Saints coach Debbie Ward told the Regina Leader-Post that “I thought we played a good game. We played fairly well, the girls worked well and they were ready to play. I’m really pleased with our defensive (effort) but I still want to see more on offence.” Linda Bent paced Mount Royal with 11. Mustangs coach Pat Eger said “my girls didn’t play up to what I expected but often a good team makes you look bad. We got into foul trouble because we’re used to playing shorter halves (16 minutes) and against a strong team, you can only afford to play your starting five for the majority of the game. As a result, they get pretty tired and start taking some unnecessary fouls.”
In the bronze medal match, the Regina Central Gophers stomped the Saskatoon Mount royal Mustangs 73-19. The Mustangs included Nancy Kohut, Linda Bent, Holly Mornson.

They wanted this thing that much. Desire and ability. I know they’re as good as any team, man-to-man, but it’s also the desire that counts. They never quit.” Debbie Morton scored 16 before limping out with five minutes to play with a sore ankle. Lori Kozicki added 12. Bedford Road coach Irene Wallace said “we play the fastbreak game but it didn’t work against their defence. We talked about it before the game. We knew what we’d meet. I told the girls we’d have to try to get the ball inside. But we had to do most of our shooting from the outside.” Bedford Road led 10-4. Miller rallied to a 27-20 lead at the half. Sharon Kleckner scored 13 for Bedford Road and was largely contained in the second half.
