Prior to the game, Titans coach Mike O’Donnell had predicted a win. “We have more height so we’ll control play under the basket.” After the game, he told the Regina Leader-Post that “I’m proud and pleased.” Candace Sebastian and Lorrie Kozicki combined for 15 of the Saints’ points. The Saints (coached by Debbie Ward) also included Theresa Phaneuf, Glennis McLaughlin, Nancy Wright.
In the provincial final, the Saskatoon Bedford Road Redmen defeated the Regina Archbishop M.C. O’Neill Titans 33-32 as Rose Anne Arndt scored 18 and Evelyn DeKok 4. Kay Murphy led the Titans with 13. Rose Ann Zaba added 7. The two teams had met two weeks earlier in exhibition play and O’Neill won. Bedford Road was ahead 27-20 with seven minutes to go but O’Neill ripped off a 6-0 run. With the fans and teams frantic, both teams took wild shots. O’Neil was ahead 32-31 with 50 seconds to play when Bedford Road stole the ball. Marilyn Larson hit the winning free throws with 10 seconds to plan. Coach Dean Dickson said “this is fantastic. Rossanne made the key play for us when she took that foul and then Marilyn took those foul shots – wow!”
