In the provincial semis, the Caronport Cougars dispatched the Meadow Lake Carpenter Spartans 71-57 as Craig Anderson scored 17 and Mike Vaughan 17. Len Timmer led the Spartans with 20. Lyndon Neufeld added 16. Anderson told the Regina Leader-Post that “we depend on our defence a lot. The coach (Tim Herr) has been stressing all year that you can’t with a championship without it, so we’re doing it.”

In the other semi, the Melfort Comets clubbed the Moose Jaw Riverview Royals 81-52 as Steve Glanville scored 13 and Kevin Johnson 11. Andrew Striha paced the Royals with 12. Jamie Throsell added 10 and Jason Ludke 10.

In the bronze medal match, the Moose Jaw Riverview Royals nipped the Meadow Lake Carpenter Spartans 62-61 as Jason Ludke scored 18 and Jamie Throsell 18. Lyndon Neufeld led the Spartans with 19. Len Zimmer added 14.

In the final, the Melfort Comets defeated the Caronport Cougars 69-56 as Shawn Swicheniuk scored 25 and Mike Abbott 10. Craig Anderson led the Cougars with 21. Mike Vaughan added 14. The Comets kept bombing over top Caronport’s zone to take a 12-2 early lead. They led 33-28 at the half. Comets coach Don Moskal told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that “we just got a little gold from the outside. We laid back and weren’t aggressive. They got a couple of basketbs and that makes quite a difference. The kids played really well. We’re quite a bit smaller but just hustle and determination is why we won it.”
