In the semis, the Swift Current Composite Colts defeated the Tisdale Tornados 75-54. The Colts went on a 10-0 run to take an 18-10 lead and never looked back. Steve Schmidt scored 18, Gerald Wagner 15 and Chris Braun 10. Brian Kohlhammer led Tisdale with 16, Jonathan Mayerle 14 and Colin Lloyd 10.

In the other semi, Les Karpluk hit 24, Mike Nunn 19 and Guenville Richert 13 to lead the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders past the Estevan Elecs 82-68. Martin Holzer led Estevan with 26. Jeff Rathgeber hit 11 and Vince Parent 10. Crusaders coach Ken Andrusiak told the Regina Leader-Post that Derek Dodge and Grenville Reichert “made a difference on the press. They went out and did what they were supposed to do.” The Crusaders led 66-47 but the Elecs rallied to within 66-56, so Andrusiak re-inserted his starters. “Estevan has a good team. They sure came back and scared us. They got the momentum and then we threw a timeout at them and they still had the momentum. … I think we played well enough to win but that was about it. We missed a lot of easy baskets. The defence, however, was quite adequate. I think the difference was that we threw three or four different defence at them in the first half, from full, to half, to even quarter-court pressure. I don’t think it was so much the press as it was changing. It worked so well in the last five minutes, it could have been any of them.” Estevan coach Jamie Town said “we got beat by a better ball club tonight. They pressed and rebounded well. They could fastbreak whenever they had to and went to the hoop really well. We made a few mental errors on the press with the long pass. We let them get a few easy baskets, cherry-pickers every time we came back. It was hard. We came back every time. We got back within nine and again we let them get a couple of easy baskets.”

In the bronze medal match, the Estevan Elecs dusted the Tisdale Tornados 91-71 as Martin Holzer scored 30, Vince Parent 27 and Darnell Pidhorny 18.

In the final, the Swift Current Colts defeated the Prince Albert Carlton Crusaders 57-53. Despite playing fast break and man-to-man defence all season, they confounded Carleton by playing a zone in the final. Coach Jim Bobick told the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix that he switched to a zone “basically, I was afraid of getting fouls. So, on offence, we back off too – control ball, let them foul us. That’s not our style and it affected us but.” Mike Schmidt paced Swift Current with 23. Gerald Wagner added 12, Beaubier 6, Wall 6, Gehl 5, Anderson 3 and Hassett 2. The Colts led 33-23 at the half. Grenville Riebert led Carlton with 14. Derek Dodge added 14, Mike Nunn 10, Bailey 8 and Les Karpluk 7.
