Spartans coach Lorne Aston told the Regina Leader-Post that “we can thank that fellow Herbison (who scored nine in the fourth quarter). He pulled us back together in the fourth quarter. They almost lulled us to death and I wasn’t sure would even find the basket.” Redmen coach John Neilles said “I knew we wouldn’t have a chance if we played a wide-open game against the Spartans. I stressed ball control, stalled and tried to keep the score as low as possible. We came awfully close to beating them.” The Redmen led 8-6, 16-12 and then 24-22 at the half.

        In the provincial final, point guard Jeff South scored 14 to lead the Regina Sheldon-Williams Spartans past the Saskatoon Walter Murray Marauders 36-27. Sheldon-Williams tough man-to-man defence stymied Walter Murray. Coach Lorne Aston told the Regina Leader-Post that “the Marauders were tough at times. I was worried for a while, (while being showered by players). This soaking doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve waited a long time.” Walter Murray led 7-6 at the quarter. The Sheldon-Williams Spartans were ahead 20-10 at the half. Forward Hal Herbison added 10 from the perimeter for the Spartans. Centre Stan Metcalfe scored 6 on hooks, Malcolm Graham 4 and Jim Ebbels 2. John Storey paced Walter Murray with 12. Julie Rachey added 6, Ken English 5, Tom Cousins 2 and Larry Bruce 2.
