In the final, Pincher Creek St. Michael’s Dragons defeated the Vegreville St. Mary’s Saints 59-48 to capture their third consecutive title. The Saints led 27-26 at the half. But the Dragonettes quickly took command in the second half and soon built a 12-point lead. “For the last while we’ve been having some really good moments and some poor ones,” Dragonettes coach Jamie Dewald told the Lethbridge Herald. “We just got together (after halftime) and played like we could. The girls decided it was no good trading baskets and decided to do something about it.” She asked for more movement from her troops in the second half and they delivered. Andrea Hlady paced the Dragonettes with 27. Karen Rowles added 14 and Linda Dase 10. Nat Bomeau led the Saints with 14, Michelle Nault added 12. Dewald said she was surprised to see Saints’ coach Gerald Knox employ a man-to-man defence against them. “As far as matching up with us, it’s tough. A team that plays man-to-man against us is going to get hurt.”
