In the quarterfinals, held in Picture Butte, the 6th-seeded Edmonton Christian Lions defeated the 3rd-seeded Picture Butte Sugar Queens 63-54 as Heather Williams scored 20, including six treys. Nicole Leclair led the Sugar Queens with 13. Lana Wandler added 12 and Kamilla Marsden 12. The Lions led by 12 at the half but the Sugar Queens rallied to within three with seven minutes to play. But seven consecutive points by post Carita Vanden Born rebuilt the Lion lead to 10. The Sugar Queens again drew to within 56-53 but faltered down the stretch. Sugar Queens coach Donna Branch said “they worked hard. They wanted this game so bad. It was just a lot of little letdowns, those little lulls on defence.” Branch said the Sugar Queens were also hurt by an injury to guard Laura Wandler. Although she returned to the floor, she couldn’t shoot and “was hurting.” The Sugar Queens also included Susie Nicole, Tanya Stroeve.

        The 2nd-seeded Vauxhall Viqueens stomped the 7th-seeded Elk Point F.G. Miller Crusaders 90-68 as Renny Olfert scored 25, Cherie Reynolds 23 and Robin Orsten 13. Denise Drielick led the Crusaders with 16. Renee Anderson added 13. “We pressed them a little bit and got a few turnovers, which helped,” said Viqueens coach Jackie Kress. “We passed really well and fast broke a lot.” The Crusaders (coached by Ray Danyluk) also included Bonnie West, Vania Sanregret, Raegan Croteau, Tammy Sieben, Shanna Baker, Jill West, Melissa Easthope, Jennifer Hillebrand, Felina Kinjerski, Robyn Danyluk, Tina Henderson, Donna Pinder and Amanda Sanregret.

        The top-seeded Rimbey Spartans crushed the 8th-seeded Devon Wildcats 60-26 as Korinna Elliott scored 14 and Melissa Metz 13. Elizabeth Small led the Wildcats with 6. Melanie Woytiuk added 6. The Wildcats also included Kylee Kennedy.

        In the last quarterfinal, the 4th-seeded Crossfield W.G. Murdoch Trojans dispatched the 5th-seeded Fairview Cobras 52-42 as Heather Graham scored 15, Jaime Lynn 14 and Alison McGinn 13. Angie Lund paced the Cobras with 15. Kim Stucklschwaiger added 12. The Cobras also included Nicole Scott, Jessica Clavette.

        In the semis, the Vauxhall Viqueens dumped the top-seeded Rimbey Spartans 72-61 as Cherie Reynolds scored 27. Renny Olfert added 11 and Shannon Hagen 11. Melissa Metz paced the Spartans with 27.

        In the other semi, the Crossfield W.G. Murdoch Trojans dumped the Edmonton Christian Lions 66-59 as Jaime Lynn scored 40, Heather Graham 11 and Kelsey Fessler 11. Heather Williams led the Lions with 24.

        In the bronze medal match, the Edmonton Christian Lions dispatched the Rimbey Spartans 63-53 as Cami Pelster scored 22 and Caritan Vanden Born 16. Kate Boorman paced the Spartans with 16. Melissa Metz added 11. The Spartans (coached by Garnett Dugray) also included Korina Elliott, Nicola Collis, Jamie Jaffray.

In the final, the Vauxhall Viqueens defeated Crossfield W.G. Murdoch Trojans 74-54. “I think a lot of people didn’t expect us to be here,” said Vauxhall coach Jackie Kress. “But we wanted to be here. … Our goal was we want to be the team that wasn’t supposed to be there come in and work our hardest and if we proved to be the team no one could, we come out on top, great.” In the final, “we knew what we had to do,” which was rebound like mad, Kress added. Viqueens Cherie Reynolds and Julie Fisher dominated the boards, which often triggered runout buckets for the Viqueens. They ripped off a late 15-2 run to take a 34-13 lead at the half. Reynolds paced the Viqueens with 26. Renee Olfert added 21 and Shannon Hagen 11. Kelsey Fessler paced the Trojans with 20. Heather Graham added 17.
