In the quarterfinals, held in Calmar, the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras crushed the Bonnyville Notre Dame Roadrunners 94-56 as Noel Flitton scored 14 and Doug Buist 13. “We hadn’t played them before (but) we were in control for the entire game,” Cobras coach Dennis Simpson told the Claresholm Local Press.
The Acme Redmen defeated clipped the Calmar Whitehawks 69-54.
The top-seeded Edmonton Christian Lions torched the Peace River Nomads 150-47.
In the last quarterfinal, the Devon John Maland Wildcats defeated the Sylvan Lake H.J. Cody Lakers 82-71. The Lakers (coached by Elwood Erwin) included Ray Leckie, Jason Caldwell, David Dallaire, Jason Diebert, Kevin Ziola.
In the semis, the Edmonton Christian Lions clocked the Devon John Maland Wildcats 88-63.
In the other semi, the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras defeated the Acme Redmen 78-56. “We were down two points at half time, but we came back strong in the second half. 1 don’t think we played well in the first half. That was the problem,” Cobras coach Dennis Simpson told the Claresholm Local Press.
In the bronze medal match, the Devon John Maland Wildcats edged the Acme Redmen 84-80.
In the final, the top-seded Edmonton Christian Lions defeated the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras 109-64. “They’re as tough a team as we’ve ever seen,” Cobras coach Dennis Simpson told the Lethbridge Herald. “They were just a little quicker and stronger than us.” Simpson told the Claresholm Local Press that “they were very, very strong. We came out a little flat. Everything they put up went in, and everything we put up seemed to go off the rim. … They were disappointed, but at the same time, they recognize what a fine team Edmonton Christian was. I was very pleased with the fact that they were able to go to provincials in the first place, and even more pleased they were able to attain a second place finish.”
