In the bronze medal match, the Red Deer River Glen Royals dispatched the Edmonton Christian Lions 70-60 as Charlie Jorgenson scored 22 and Vance Porter 18. In the final, the Nanton J.T. Foster Knights defeated the Devon John Maland Wildcats 54-47. The Knights were led by Brad Gallup, the 14-year-old phenom, averaged 25 points per game in the tourney, including 23 in the final. Bin Trinh added 14. The Wildcats had only 81 high school students. Coach Al Gallup said the title was a testimony to the school’s system. ““This was a hockey town, but I like basketball and started a program up when I came here as principal. … We start working with kids in grade nine and I think they learn to grow up fast. We basically let them play whenever they want and as long as the students are doing something constructive, they can shoot. If not, they’re gone for a week. If students can learn to love the game, they will want to practice and get better. It’s a give and take situation. If you can sell the game to the people who want to play, you should be successful, no matter how big a school is. … We were by far the smallest team in the tourney (with just 81 students). In the final our biggest guy (Gavin Smith) was 6-2 and Devon had two 6-6 starters and all five of their starters was over 6-foot.” John Bitz scored 43 in three tournament games for the Knights.
