In the final, the Milk River Erle Rivers Comets defeated Nanton J.T. Foster Knights 73-63. The Knights broke to an early 12-point lead but Barry Chapman ignited the Comets offence as they rallied to a 35-34 lead. The Comets added four more points but Knight guard Vin Trinh hit his fourth trey and Jamie Mulholland added a baseline jumper with three seconds on the clock to knot the score at 39 heading into the lockers. After Comets went up by five early in the second half, Nanton pulled to within 55-54 with eight minutes remaining but Erle Rivers ran off a 13-6 run to take a 67-61 lead with 3:35 left. The closest the Knights came after that was four points. “It was an especially sweet victory for us,” said Comet coach Dale Baldwin. “(Knights) beat us here last year to knock us out of zones and the guys were really pumped to get some revenge. We discussed it before the game and the guys said ‘we owe them one’.” Baldwin added that “Chapman probably had the best game of his high school career. We were nervous for a while in the first half, but he calmed us down and got us going like he’s done all year. (Tad) Lisowskl had another strong game for us, but I was most impressed with Cameron Miller. He did an excellent job on Mulholland. He held him to only 12 points when he’s been averaging 37.” Chapman scored 21. “My job is to run the offence, set up the plays and get everyone fired up. We have guys who can score and I try to get them the ball.” Knights coach Allen Gallup said “we’ve had such a good year that tonight’s (game) was a tough one to lose. We picked up a couple of fouls early in the second half that really cut our tempo back and that hurt us because we’re an up-tempo team.” Tad Lisowski added 15 for the Comets and Brent Peterson 14. Vin Trinh led the Knights with 19. Gavin Smith added 14 and Jamie Mulholland 12.
