In the south central finals, the Calgary Bowness Trojans defeated Drumheller x-x.

        In the southern finals, the Magrath Zeniths defeated the Taber Globetrotters 44-34.

        Taber was granted entry into the provincial draw after the Northwest zone representative withdrew.

In the quarterfinals, held in Calgary, the Magrath Zeniths dispatched the Stettler William E. Hays Wildcats 56-24 as John Taylor scored 14, Ron Hansen 11 and Ron Ehlert 7. Arnold Donovan paced the Wildcats with 13. Roger Christians added 9. The Wildcats (coached by Bob Stewart) also included Larry Dawson, Roger Christians, Terry O’Connor, Wayne McAlister.

        The Edmonton St. Anthony’s Saints clipped the Wetaskiwin Sabres 44-33 as Robert Jones scored 12, Michael Phillips 11, Douglas Curtis 10, Omer Dery 6 and Gordon Bernaducci 5. St. Anthony’s hit 20-64 from the floor and 4-14 from the line. Ken Lee paced the Sabres with 15. Ron Kirstein added 8, Bill McDougall 6 and Ian Palk 4. The Sabres hit 15-62 from the floor and 3-12 from the line. The Sabres also included Bruce Grant.

        The Taber Globetrotters defeated the Vegreville Cougars 46-18 as Brian Burbank scored 15, Devon Tufts 11, Don Miller 10, Kent Jesperson 9 and Jim Tanner 1. Edward Zuk led the Cougars with 6. Dennis Fedoruk added 4, Elwood Schwanke 3, Bill Montgomery 2 and Richard Farion 1. The Cougars hit 2-11 from the line. The Cougars also included Peter Bowen, Ken Diachuk.

        In the last quarterfinal, the Calgary Bowness Trojans crushed the Medicine Hat Crescent Heights Vikings (then the Celts) 47-25 as Glen Mundy scored 12, Dennis Ooms 10 and Terry Kimmel 10. The Trojans led 10-6 after one quarter and 19-12 at the half. Mike Norwood paced Medicine Hat with 7. Bill Rae added 6 and Bob Gordie 6. The Celts also included Vern Hayward, Gary Dirk, Derek Haight, Bob Hashizume.

        In the semis, the Taber Globetrotters dumped the Edmonton St. Anthony’s Saints 37-31 as Son Miller scored 11, Rick Anderson 11 and Blaine Burbank 7. Gordon Bernaducci paced St. Anthony’s with 13. Robert Jones added 7 and Doug Curtis 7.

        In the other semi, the Magrath Zeniths clipped the Calgary Bowness Trojans 60-45 as Ron Hansen scored 21, John Taylor 11 and Ron Ehlert 8. Dennis Ooms paced the Trojans with 19. John DeGraff added 10.

In the final, the Magrath Zeniths defeated the Taber Globetrotters 37-23 after leading 16-7, 23-15 and 36-19 at the quarters. John Taylor paced the Zeniths with 12. Lloyd Hillmer added 8, Burke Hamilton 6, Ron Hansen 6 and Ron Ehlert 5. The Zeniths hit 13-28 (.464) from the floor, while Taber hit 9-45 (.200). Devon Tufts paced Taber with 5. Blaine Burbank added 5, Rick Anderson 4 and Don Miller 4, Sid Halma 3 and Ray Pyne 2. Taber had earned a berth in the provincials after the northwest zone representatives withdrew from the draw.
