In the quarterfinals, held in Spirit River (for schools with student populations between 300 and 800), the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras nipped the Camrose Trojans 83-81 in double overtime. Scott Shimp led the Cobras with 26. Gerald Vandervalk added 20 and Rod Simpson 18. “We played 10 minutes of really ugly basketball,” Claresholm coach Dennis Simpson told the Lethbridge Herald. The Trojans included Roy Verghese, Brian Benn, David Reynolds, Darren Gunderson.
The Edmonton Louis St. Laurent Barons clocked the Spirit River Spartans 79-57 after leading 37-34 at the half. Dennis Backer led the Spartans with 16. Brett Lederhose added 12 and Darcy Skaley 10. Spartans coach Tom Dirsa told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune “we didn’t play well in the second half.” The Spartans (coached by Dirsa) also included Gerry Crowe, Dennis Paish, Marvin Shmyr, Torre Zuk, Robin Kazakawich, Troy Delfs and Blaine Demchuk.
The Calgary Bowness Trojans crushed the Vegreville Vagabonds 100-60 as Darren Davidson scored 20.
In the last quarterfinal, the Brooks Buffalos stomped the Sherwood Park Bev Facey Falcons 87-73.
In the semis, the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras clipped the Edmonton Louis St. Laurent Barons 65-62 as Gerald Vandervalk scored 25. Rod Simpson added 12.
In the other semi, the Calgary Bowness Trojans clipped the Brooks Buffalos 83-70 as Darren Davidson scored 24 and Bruce Irving 16.

In the final, the Calgary Bowness Trojans defeated the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras 67-57 (also reported as 57-54) to capture their second consecutive provincial title. Darren Davidson paced the Trojans with 16. Rob McAuley added 12. The score was knotted at 34 at the half. Gerald Vandervalk paced the Cobras with 18. Darren Davidson added 16, Rob MacAuley 12 and Mark Lange 12. “We sort of came together when it really counted,” Claresholm coach Dennis Simpson told the Lethbridge Herald. “Gerald Vandervalk had a really good tournament. We had to have that from him.” The score was knotted at 34 at the half.
