The Calgary E.P. Scarlett Lancers pounded the Edmonton M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs 82-46. Ed Joseph paced the Voyageurs with 16. Dexter Amour added 12. Joseph told the Edmonton Journal that “I have to admit almost everything they tried worked. They capitalized on every one of our mistakes. When we got up court and did get a chance to score, we had turnovers and they capitalized on them. But you have to give our guys credit. They never gave up.” Lancers coach John Cannon said “that would not be organized basketball in Calgary. It’s more like streetball.” The Voyageurs (coached by Thom Elniski) also included Leeroy Gentles, Aaron Smith.
In the last quarterfinal, the Edmonton St. Joseph’s Saints edged the Red Deer Lindsay Thurber Raiders 34-31 after leading 20-12 at the half. Brian Masikewich paced the Saints with 15. Sam Safadi added 11. Dean Willoughby led the Raiders with 14. Les Sillars added 8 and Ben Spiller 5 after quickly finding himself in foul trouble. Raiders coach Steve Latta told the Red Deer Advocate that “we didn’t play well in the first half, tried to come on in the fourth quarter but just couldn’t get enough going. I’m certainly not displeased but the game was ours to win. We just never took advantage of the breaks.” The Raiders (coached by Latta) also included Sheldon Smith, Darrin Erickson, Jason Scriven.
In the semis, the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Rams stomped the Calgary Dr. E.P. Scarlett Lancers 94-69 as Chad Bowie scored 42. The Rams led 38-20 at the half. Jerry Murphy added 15, along with 17 boards, and Neil Bendle 12. Tim Sprung led the Lancers with 19.

In the bronze medal match, the Calgary Dr. E.P. Scarlett Lancers clocked the Edmonton St. Joseph’s Saints 82-63. Saints forward Sam Safadi told the Edmonton Journal that “we didn’t expect to even get this far. But we did it and we feel happy. It ended the season good.” The Saints led 33-31 at the half on the shooting of Safadi and turnovers forced by Nick Anastacio. The Saints (coached by Ron Woytiuk) also included Brian Masikewich, Frank Mrkonjac.
In the final, the Calgary Bishop Carroll Cardinals defeated the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Rams 56-54 on two free throws by John Vigna with four seconds to play. Rams coach Joey Shackleford said the foul call, which the Rams felt was questionable, produced an “unfortunate” ending. “We thought it was a cheap way to end the provincial final. We thought we’d really been denied the game.” Rams led 35-23 at halftime, but had to sit through a lengthy 30-minute halftime break, Shackleford added. “I think that might have affected us because we were running really well in the first half. Bishop came out and scored about the first eight or 10 points in the second half.” Cardinals coach Mike O’Brien told the Calgary Herald that “I still can’t believe it myself. I’m still in ecstasy.” Vigna led the Cardinals with 26. Chad Bowie led the Rams with 16. Jerry Murphy added 14 and Neil Bendle 12.
