In the quarterfinals, held in Lethbridge, the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cougars nipped the Calgary Crescent Heights Cowboys 58-56. The Cowboys full court press put the Cougars are their heels early. The Cowboys led 17-6 after one quarter and 23-9 in the second. But the Cougars switched to a full-court press themselves and trimmed the margin to 28-23 at the half. The Cougars led 42-40 after three quarters. The Cowboys knotted the score at 56 with a minute to play. The Cougars lost possession of the ball with 41 seconds to play. The Cowboys held the ball and Wayne Campbell drove the lane with five seconds to play but was called for travelling. Peter Sikora fired a pass up court to Randy Royer, who found Billy Dudas alone under the basket. He hit the winning layup with one second on the clock. Sikora paced the Cougars with 30. Andy Beaudin added 14, along with 10 boards, Randy Royer 6, along with 8 boards, Billy Dudas 4 and Paul Kenwood 4, while Dewcic, Mackley, Peake, Wolfe, Federzell, Mell and Feher were scoreless. George Taven paced the Cowboys (coached by Wayne Thomas, assistant Nev Anderson) with 18. Lyle Huculuk added 14, Earl Folkard 13, Brian Cruickshank 7 and Wayne Campbell 2, while Smith, Broeker, Mah, K Smith and Steve Castonguay were scoreless. Cowboys coach Wayne Thomas told the Calgary Herald that “we should have won that game. Brian Cruickshank didn’t travel. It was an offensive foul but it occurred after the ball had passed through the hoop.”

        The Magrath Zeniths dusted the Red Deer Lindsay Thurber Raiders 65-52 after leading 29-26 at the half and 48-40 after three quarters. Jon Balderson paced the Zeniths with 27. Rick Ponomar added 18, Tim Rollingson 5, Brad Wilde 4, Neil Harker 2 and Anderson 2, while Karren, Alston, Leishman and Brewerton were scoreless. Al Poytress and Brian Rhodes each scored 11 to pace the Raiders. Blaine Whitford added 11, Ross Cloutier 11, Grieb 4 and Skelozub 1, while Weis, Ron Humting, Wilson and Merrifield were scoreless. The Raiders also included Barry Patterson, Wes Read.

        The Edmonton Bonnie Doon Lancers thrashed the Grande Prairie Tomahawks 73-39 after leading 30-13 at the half. Wayne Sartore paced the Lancers with 21. Doug Carter added 20, Dave Johnson 13, Candler 5, Doug Lucas 5, Sackley 4, Mansen 4 and Bill Prince 1, while Stu Hill, Sulton, Martin and Krisch were scoreless. Dave McNab paced the Tomahawks with 13. Dale King added 12, Eric Anderson 8, Tim Sebastien 4 and Ron Stojan 2, while Mike Stojan, Dan Byrnes, Ken Jones and Bernie Range were scoreless. The Tomahawks (coached by Eugene Wadel) also included Gary Goodkey, Gordon Goodkey.

        In the last quarterfinal, the Calgary Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs clipped the Edmonton Harry Ainlay Titans 61-52. The Titans led 29-27 at the half. Kerry Brett paced the Bulldogs with 17. Ross Salmon added 14, Vulcano 12, Battershill 8, Hambly 6, Tony Peterson 2, Lindsay Moir 2 and Prentice 1, while Watson, B Salmon, Thompson and Littlejohns were scoreless. Dale Getty scored 13 to pace the Titans. Gary Lilley added 11, Wes McHarg 9, Bill Petersen 8, Norbert Schultz 7 and Rick Rosborough 4, while Savage, Horn, Robin Rosborough, Brian Martin, Burley and Flanders were scoreless. The Titans (coached by Bryan Anderson) also included Phil Hansen, Bill McHarg?.

        In the semis, the Calgary Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs nipped the Magrath Zeniths 68-67. The Bulldogs led 16-12 after one quarter. The Zeniths led 35-33 at the half and 61-45 after three quarters. But then they collapsed and the Bulldogs rallied to knot the score at 67. Kerry Brett hit the winning free throw with one second remaining on the clock, missing his first but nailing the second. Lindsay Moir paced the Bulldogs with 16. Kerry Brett added 13. Rick Ponomar led the Zeniths with 22. Jon Balderson added 17.

        In the other semi, the Edmonton Bonnie Doon Lancers dispatched the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cougars 66-50. The Lancers led 13-10, 33-25 and 47-30 at the quarters. Doug Carter and Wayne Sartore each scored 20 pace the Lancers. Randy Royer paced the Cougars with 26.

        In the bronze medal match, the Lethbridge Catholic Central Cougars dumped the Magrath Zeniths 67-52. Randy Royer paced the Cougars with 25. Peter Sikora added 20. Rick Ponomar paced the Zeniths with 14. Jon Balderson added 10. The Cougars led 28-26 at the half. The Zeniths (coached by x) also included Neil Harker, Karren, Alston, Brad Wilde, Leishman, Karren, Brewerton, Tim Rollingson, Ken Anderson.

In the final, the Calgary Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs defeated the Edmonton Bonnie Doon Lancers 55-53. The score was knotted at 18 after one quarter. The Lancers led 31-20 in the second quarter but relinquished a 14-3 run and the Bulldogs led 34-33 at the half. They extended their lead to 47-40 after three quarters and were ahead 51-40 in the fourth before the Lancers rallied to within 51-49. But Bonnie Doon was only able to muster 4 points in the final 3:15. Tony Peterson paced the Bulldogs with 18. Ross Salmon added 14. Dave Johnston led the Lancers with 15. Doug Carter added 13 and Wayne Sartore 12. Bulldogs coach Del Anderson told the Calgary Herald that “these guys were believers. They knew they could win the title, even though they were behind in all three games.” The Bulldogs finished (28-5) on the season. It was just the Lancers fourth loss on the campaign. Bulldogs coach Del Anderson told the Edmonton Journal that “we had to work for everything we got. … I was a little concerned about our conditioning and whether we could stay up for this game. I didn’t think Bonnie Doon had been forced as much as were in the previous two games. But we used 9 people and they only used 5. That might have made the difference. And then (Tony) Peterson made four unbelievable shots.”
