In the south, they were often built in conjunction with community centres by the Mormon church. They were often less than regulation size, which caused many a foe to struggle because of low rafters, close walls and smaller dimensions.

Wesley Woolf, Jimmy Lena and DeCon Pitcher paced the Panthers. Johnny Smith and Johnny Davies anchored the defence. Dennis Prince and Merlyn Lybbert led Glenwood. The Lakers also included W Leavitt, N Davidson, D Lybbert, G Wheeler, D Woolf and L Layton.
Stirling, Magrath and Raymond had finished tied atop the standings in their East division section, necessitating a playoff. Stirling defeated Raymond x-x in a sudden death game to determine who faced Magrath in the divisional final.
