In the final, the Whitehorse F.H. Collins Warriors dispatched the Whitehorse Vanier Catholic Crusaders 45-36. Although Warriors star Jesse Bell picked up four quick fouls in the first half and was forced to the bench, teammates Karalyn Mackenzie and Luu Nguyen stepped up to fill the void. Nguyen finished with 23. Mackenzie added 11 and Bell 6. “I thought we played just an excellent game,” Warriorettes’ coach Norm Zazulak told the Whitehorse Star. “These teams have played each other enough that we each know the strengths and weaknesses of the other. We were on our heels from the get go, even though we managed to build a bit of a lead. I thought we were going to see a huge momentum swing when Jess had to come out of the game, but we had some key players continue to swing things in our favour.” The Warriors led 24-13 at the half and hit 13-74 from the floor. The Crusaders hit 19-64. Astrid Grawehr led the Crusaders with 11. Bonna Feliciano added 10. Crusaders coach Jason McArthur said “I’m very proud of the way we competed all weekend. We played with heart and desire and were strong on defence. Our shooting wasn’t sharp (Saturday) and their post players did a strong job of not giving us much inside. But, I thought we did a good job of playing through that to make it close.”
