In the semi-finals, the F.H. Collins Warriors defeated the Porter Creek Rams 73-69. “It was a pretty emotional and physically draining game,” Warriors coach Tyler Bradford told the Yukon News.
In the final, the Whitehorse Vanier Catholic Secondary Crusaders thrashed the F.H. Collins Warriors 86-45. The Crusaders trailed most of the first quarter but took command as they capped their undefeated season. Crusaders coach Dave Thomson told the Yukon News “the boys played extremely well. They were tested in the first quarter and they responded. They played extremely good defence and I’m very proud of them.” Captain Brian Pronoslo said depth was the difference. “All the teams had good starters. You could see today, our bench went out and the lead kept building. It didn’t matter who we put on the floor – everyone can play.” The Warriors broke to a 10-4 lead on a pair of free-throws from Bryan Hermosa at the start of the first quarter but Crusader Brian Pronoslo turned the momentum with a fast break slam. Crusader A.J. New stole the ball for a transition layup that gave Vanier its lead at 15-14 and then a bucket to make in 18-14. The Crusaders led 26-16 after one quarter. Warriors coach Tyler Bradford said “we came out with lots of energy. I think that carried over from yesterday (in the semifinal). We got into a little bit of foul trouble early there, (the lead) slipped away and we were getting out rebounded.” Brian Pronoslo paced the Crusaders with 22. John Apostol added 15 and Mike Hare 12. Bryan Hermosa led the Warriors with 19. Walter Hermosa added 9 and Owen Hedstrom-Langford 7. “We play a lot of basketball,” said Pronoslo. “Rowan is great to have. He just controls the pace for us and makes us all very comfortable in the game. He gets us the ball when we need it. Everyone else plays their part.”
