In the British Columbia finals, the Vancouver Mols defeated the Vancouver Mount Pleasant Legionettes 44-57; 40-50; 60-43; 48-42; 46-30 (3g-2). …………………………………………………… In game one, Mount Pleasant (coached by Glen Robertson) prevailed 57-44 after leading 29-18 at the half. Diane Doyle paced the Legionettes with 14. Janice Zingrich added 12, Janice Robinson 11, Cheryl McIntosh 11 and Judy Hilliard 9. Playing coach Darlene Currie led the Mols with 12. Mount Pleasant appealed the result, arguing that Barb Roberts played the final few minutes despite having had 5 fouls. The BC basketball association upheld the appeal and ordered the game replayed. But CABA overruled the BC decision and let the result stand.  Darlene Currie led the Mols with 21. Barb Robertson added 8 and Vale Kingswood 8. Diane Doyle paced the Legioneetes with 16. In the national tourney, held at Simon Fraser Univ., Vancouver Mount Pleasant Legion was invited despite having lost to the Vancouver Mols 3g-2 in the B.C. senior A final. But the fourth game was under protest and CABA still hadn’t ruled by the time of the national finals so both teams were allowed to enter the tourney. Mount Pleasant picked up Victoria’s Mary Coutts and U.B.C.’s Joanna Pederson for the tourney. The Vancouver Mols picked up U.B.C.’s Pauline Gensick and Janet Douglas. They were essentially the same Richmond-based team which had won the previous three national titles.

        In the opener, the Vancouver Mount Pleasant Legionettes defeated Winnipeg St. Vital 81-43 as centre Mary Coutts scored 12, forward Janice Zingrich 11, guard Diane Doyle 10, Jay Dahlgren 10 and forward Cheryl McIntosh 10. St. Vital was led by Carol Ruff and Pat Pisnook, each 10.

        The Vancouver Mols opened with a 47-30 victory over the Hamilton Jewish Community Centre Kittens as Mary Macdonald scored 10, Darlene Currie 8 and Shelagh Farrell 8. Maggie Maniya led the Kittens with 11. Pat MacDonald added 10.

        Vancouver Mount Pleasant defeated the Hamilton Kittens 54-43 as Mary Coutts scored 19 and Janice Zingrich 8 to pace Vancouver past Hamilton. Marg Mamuza scored 13 for the Kittens.

        The Vancouver Mols defeated Winnipeg St. Vital 78-41 as Mary Macdonald scored 18, Barb Robertson 10 and Vale Kingwood 10. Winnipeg was led by Pat Pisnook 12 and Carol Roy 11.

        The Hamilton Kittens secured their only win with a 53-45 defeat of Winnipeg St. Vital as Pat Macdonald scored 15 and Marg Mamuza 16. St. Vital was led by Joanne Schultz 14 and Pat Pisnook 14.

        In the bronze medal match, Winnipeg St. Vital edged the Hamilton Kittens 45-41.

        In the final, Mt. Pleasant defeated the Mols 47-43 as Diane Doyle scored 16, guard Janice Robinson 9 and Mary Coutts 9. Mount Pleasant with good rebounding and tough defence as 5-11 Judy Hilliard held Mary Macdonald to two points. Janice Robinson held Mols playing coach Darlene Currie to 9. Barb Robertson paced the Mols with 14. Mount Pleasant coach Glen Robertson told the Vancouver Sun that “the best team won. We’re tired of seeing Mols get all the headlines … and it seems like the only time they ever lose is against our club.” Janice Robinson “played one of her best defensive games,” holding Darlene Currie to 9 “and let’s face it, Darlene is one of the best in the country,” he added. The Legionettes also held Mary MacDonald to 2.
