In the final, the Ferryland Baltimore Broncos clipped the Glenwood Lakewood Academy Astras 62-48. Astra Tonicia Vivian told the Gander Beacon that “it was disappointing, but it was also good. … It was especially hard for us Grade 12s because it was our last one. Winning silver is good and we played really well, but … we won the volleyball provincials and we really wanted to win the basketball title to go with it. It would have been an amazing way to finish up high school.” Astras coach Dean Johnson said “the girls have worked hard and were focused all season, and right now, we’re very competitive with all teams in central no matter what level of basketball they play at. I’m really proud of what they were able to do, especially against this Baltimore (High) team. They won the 2A title last year and were supposed to move up to 3A this year, but were late getting their application in. They are a very experienced team with a solid core of Grade 12 players.” Vivian said the 14-point spread was deceptive. “It was actually back-and-forth the entire game until the last few minutes when we got into some foul trouble. They were never really challenged during the round-robin, but we really gave them a game, and it became super intense.” Christina Timmons called it “just a phenomenal year…the best year yet.” Valenti said “we didn’t cry so much because we lost, but because it was our last time we were going to play for a provincial banner. It’s different when you’re in Grade 12 and you realize this…every other year you always have another year to play, but now it’s over for us. That’s what’s hardest.”
