Eilers coach Gordon McDonald told the Vancouver Sun that “incompetent” refereeing determined the outcome. “They weren’t capable of handling the series and even if we had won Saturday’s game, I would have forfeited the series rather than go back to that wrestling arena on Monday. … It was an excellent rugby match.” McDonald added that his team was in excellent shape “except for numerous loose teeth, cut lips, bruised arms and legs.” He said he didn’t let Rita Bell play because “she didn’t have football equipment with her.” The Kins were whistled for 46 fouls and the Eilers 36.
The Isle Kins were unable to post a $450 bond (in advance of the British Columbia finals) to bring the Calgary Wittichens west for the finals, so CABA ruled that the Eilers could represent the province in the final if they agreed to post the bond, which they did.
In the national final, the Vancouver Eilers defeated Calgary Wittichens 52-48; 60-47; 48-44 (3g-0). The four-time defending champion Vancouver Eilers were in the final even though they weren’t the B.C. champions or semi-final winners. The Eilers had lost the B.C. title to Victoria King in two straight. But before the provincial finals, Victoria was unable to post the required $600 (also reported as $450) bond to ensure that travel expenses of the semi-finalists were covered. Victoria said they simply couldn’t do it. So the Eilers promptly posted the bond. After Victoria won the provincial title, coach Wally Yeomans tried to buy the bond, saying that financing was suddenly available. But Ruth Wilson, Western Canada’s senior women’s basketball representative to CABA, ruled out the Victoria bid and placed the Eilers in the finals.

Vancouver led 21-19 at the half and 37-25 after three quarters.
Following the championship, the Eilers offered to again play the Victoria Kins in a best-of-three series, saying they did not want the crown to be viewed as “second-rate.” The Kins demanded a percentage of the gate and CABA promptly threatened to suspend the Jewellers if they played the series, as it would be viewed as a diminution of the sanctioned title. Jewellers sponsor Walter Eilers told Kins coach Wally Yeamans that they would nevertheless play the series but there was no evidence it was ever conducted. The Eilers argued that their loss to the Kins in the provincial title series constituted an “exhibition” series.
