The tourney was marred by the failure of Deer Lake Elwood Regional Lakers to travel to St. John’s because of transportation problems, so the final became a best of three series between the St. John’s Brother Rice Celtics and Corner Brook Regina Knights.
In the opener, the St. John’s Brother Rice Celtics defeated the Corner Brook Regina Knights 93-70 as Dave Sparrow tossed in 21 and Steve Hayes 18. Regina as led by Wayne George’s 18 points. Wayne Cave added 16. Rice was ahead 44-27 at the break.
In the second contest, the St. John’s Brother Rice Celtics trailed 35-38 at the half but rallied to take a 79-73 victory as Bill Finn and Steve Hayes each scored 16. Lou Rumboldt led Regina with 19. Wayne George added 18.
