In the quarterfinals, the Charlottetown Rural Raiders thumped the Summerside Three Oaks Axettes 31-20 as Kate MacNeill scored 10. Katy Johnson and Jamie Lynn DesRoches each scored 7 for Three Oaks. Rural led 12-8 at the half. The Axettes also included Angela Sherry.
The Kensington Torchettes defeated the Hampshire Bluefield Bobcats 76-41 as Rebecca Gallant scores 20. Melissa Stordy scored 13 for the Bobcats. Kensington led 46-16 at the half. The Bobcats also included Cassie MacKenzie, Jana Smith, Jenna Youland, Neally Currie, Esther Hamming, Jill Youland, Melissa Gillespie.
The Charlottetown Colonel Gray Colonels dumped the Morell Marlins 59-34 as Eryn Creamer scores 18, Laura Stanley 12 and Holly Murphy 10. Julie Jay led Morell with 10. Colonel Gray leads 25-14 at the half. The Marlins also included Maria MacDonald, Alexia Meade, Kerri MacLaren, Tasha MacEwen, Emily-Kate MacDonald, Erin Hughes, Mallory MacKinnon, Kara Coffin, Amanda Simmons, Stephanie Hatton, Mallory McKinney, Nikki Burke and Amanda Mosher.
In the last quarterfinal, the Souris Spartans thumped the Kinkora Blazers 81-37 as Vicky Cheverie scores 19 and Katy MacCormack 17. Rachel McIver led Kinkora with 15. Souris leads 43-18 at the half. The Blazers also included Heather McIver, Marissa Lynch.
In the semis, the Kensington Torchettes defeated the Charlottetown Rural Raiders 48-25 as Jennifer Sullivan 16, Arleigh Delaney 10 and Ellen Weeks 13, along with 14 boards. Arleigh Delaney scored 20 and Rebecca Gallant 8. Jessie MacKinnon leads Rural with 12 points and 9 boards. Amy Connolly adds 4 points and 7 boards. Kensington led 17-5, 25-9 and 35-22 at the quarters, forcing 25 Rural turnovers in the first half. Delaney pilfered the ball five times in the third quarter.
In the other semi, the Souris Spartans defeated the Charlottetown Colonel Gray Colonels 63-46 as Katie McCormack scored 20 and grabbed 13 boards. Holly Oickle added 20 and Vicki Cheverie 14, along with 10 boards. Erin Creamer leads Colonel Gray with 20. Laura Stanley added 14 and Holly Murphy 6, along with 8 boards. Souris leads 28-23 at the half. The score was knotted at 34 with four minutes to play in the third quarter but Katie MacCormack hit two buckets and stole the ball for a layup to give Souris a 42-36 lead after three quarters. Four fastbreak hoops by Holly Oickle iced it in the final frame.
In the bronze medal match, the Charlottetown Colonel Gray Colonels defeated the Charlottetown Rural Raiders 43-32 as Eryn Creamer scored 6 points the final three minutes of play. Creamer finished with 15. Laura Stanley added 13, while Holly Murphy scored 8 and nabbed 7 boards. Jessie MacKinnon led Rural with 16 points and 6 boards. Kate MacNeill added 6, Amy Connolly 4 and Ellen Gaudet 4. Colonel Gray led 23-18 at the half but trailed 30-29 after three quarters. The Raiders also included Barb Vriends, Amy MacNeill.
In the final, the Souris Spartans defeated the Kensington Torchettes 62-46 as tournament MVP Katie McCormack scored 19 and grabbed 13 boards. Vicki Cheverie scored 13, while nabbing 8 boards, and Holly Oickle 13, along with 9 steals, Kinsey Cheverie 7 and Natalie Fisher 6. Rebecca Gallant and Ellen Weeks each scored 15 for Kensington. Weeks added 17 boards. Jennifer Sullivan scored 8 and pilfered 5 balls. Souris trailed 21-10 early and by 32-28 at the half but rallied in the second half. They outscored the Torchettes 18-2 in the third quarter, despite having three players in foul trouble. “We had our chances and just couldn’t get the ball to roll into the hoop (in the third quarter),” Kensington coach Allison Smith told the Summerside Journal-Pioneer. “I think if they had have scored two or three early in the third quarter it would have made a difference. The girls played hard and never gave up and that’s all you can ask for as a coach.”
