In the semis, the top-seeded Summerside Three Oaks-1 Axettes whipped the 4th-seeded Hampshire Bluefield-1 Bobcats 78-53 as Cierra Gaudet scored 20, Jamee Gillis 14 and Ashley Gillis 11. Amanda MacDonald led the Bobcats with 22. Shannon Moore added 12 and Rachel Andrew 7. The Axettes led 41-22 at the half.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Charlottetown Colonel Gray-1 Colonels stomped 3rd-seeded Charlottetown Rural-1 Raiders 64-45 as Celine Leduc scored 16, Kristen Callaghan 13 and Julia McKenna 8. Tressa Lloyd paced the Raiders with 10. Karinz Lazaric added 9 and Meghan Carr 9. The Colonels led 32-21 at the half.
In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded
Charlottetown Rural-1 Raiders defeated the 4th-seeded Hampshire Bluefield-1
Bobcats 61-55 as Meghan Carr scored 12, Allyson Saviour 11 and Sarah Herbert 9.
Shannon Moore paced the Bobcats with 18. Jennifer Dykerman added 11 and Cristy
Thomas 10. The Bobcats led 27-19 at the half.
In the final, the Charlottetown
Colonel Gray-1 Colonels defeated the Summerside Three Oaks-1 Axettes 66-52 as
Julia McKenna scored 20, Maggie Musclow 17 and Katie Butler 13. Cierra Gaudet
led the Axettes with 13. Jaimee Gillis added 13 and Ashley Howell 12. The Colonels
led 36-24 at the half. “Colonel Gray came out very hard at the beginning and built
a 20-point lead (early in the second quarter),” Axettes coach Forrest Lilly told
the Summerside Journal-Pioneer. “We went to a zone, the girls fought back and we
got it to within one (in the fourth quarter). But, in the end, Colonel Gray
just overpowered us. We’re not a very tall team and they (Colonels) pretty much
dominated the boards and shut down our fast break, which was our bread and
butter all year. We’re still a very young team with three Grade 12s,” added
Lilly. “We had numerous injuries all year and many of the girls stepped up. . .
I’m very proud of the way they played all season and very proud of the way they
came back today.”
