In the final, the Kensington Torchmen defeated the Morell Marlins 75-67 after leading 31-25 at the half. Kensington coach Alan Harrington told the Summerside Journal-Pioneer that the team’s work ethic and perseverance through adversity proved the difference. “We had our ups and downs. We went from 9-3 (won-lost) to 9-7 (in the regular season) for instance. We had some injuries during our slide. It’s a really good bunch of kids. Honestly, I’ve never had a bunch of kids that worked that hard before. They certainly wanted the championship. They actually wanted to be (playing for the) AA (title). They were disappointed how the season ended, but they were very determined to do well last weekend. … We had faced Morell a couple of times during the season. We certainly had not had a game like this one (championship game). It was a nail-biter for sure. It was a tough game. They (Marlins) are a very good team, and they proved that for sure. Randy Affleck is a heck of a player and shooter, and he certainly has a strong supporting cast for sure. Honestly, though, it was a team (effort) for sure. Sometimes other teams try to focus on one or two of our players, and that’s good for us because it opens it up for the other guys.” Aiden Harrington paced the Torchmen with 36, including 7 treys. Mitch Bernard added 14 and Ben McCarville 9. Randy Affleck led the Marlins with 31. Trevor Coffin added 18 and Gram Vail 6.
