In the finals, Prince of Wales defeated Summerside High x-x; x-x (2g-0). Summerside was coached by Canadian Forces Base flight lieutenant Pete Devana. “I was actually working at the base at the time. I flew on the Argus aircraft out of Summerside, four or five squadron,” Devana told the Summerside Journal-Pioneer 50 years later. “But I was asked by Charlie Ballem who was the Phys. Ed. coach at Summerside High School in 1964 to coach the team.” Devana was assisted by his wife Sharon. “My wife coached a bit because I had to fly and go away sometimes. She was only 24 years old at the time, the boys were 18, and I was 26. They are all now in their late sixties. … We went to the provincial championships against Prince of Wales College and they brought in a player we had never seen before by the name of Brian Peters (and he went on to play at Dalhousie) and so that shocked us.”
