In the semis, the 2nd-seeded Morell Marlins dumped the 3rd-seeded Montague Vikings 70-60. The score was knotted at 34 at the half. Randy Affleck paced the Marlins with 20. Kurtis Knockwood added 18 and Steven McKinnon 15. Jay Shaw led Montague with 20. Travis Laporte added 17 and Ryan Forster 9.
In the other semi, the top-seeded Summerside Three Oaks-2 Axemen dumped the 4th-seeded Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines 56-50 after leading 27-24 at the half. The Axemen dominated the Wolverines 15-7 in the third quarter and then held on for the win. MacKenzie Marchbank paced the Axemen with 19. Yiber Gashi added 10, Judah Jacksaw 8 and Jordan Murray 7. Sheldon MacFadyen and Spenser Perry each scored 14 to lead the Wolverines. Mitchell Rowley added 12.
In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded Montague Vikings defeated the 4th-seeded Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines 63-50 after leading 35-24 at the half. Jay Shaw paced the Vikings with 17 points and 22 boards. Mark Thompson scored 14, Travis Laporte 13 and Ben Shaw 9. Mitchell Rowley led the Wolverines with 16. Sheldon MacFadyen added 13, along with 11 boards, and Quentin DesRoches 6.
In the final, the top-seeded Summerside Three Oaks-2 Axemen defeated the 2nd-seeded Morell Marlins 68-52 after leading 35-24 at the half. The Axemen hit eight treys in the first half. Tournament MVP Ylber Gashi led the Axemen with 19. Chris Thompson added 12, Mackenzie Marchbank 14 and Judah Jacksaw 7. Stephen MacKinnon paced the Marlins with 17. Randy Affleck added 12, Kurtis Knockwood 9, Trevor Coffin 7 and Will Jadis 7. “If I was to summarize everything, we had a deep pool of talent and ability,” said Axemen coach Wes Jackshaw. “We had balanced scoring, and we usually had four guys in double figures. We played pretty much a good defence all year as well, and that was reflected in our final game. It was nice to see the guys perform that way, and makes it nice basketball to watch. You have to have a little bit of adversity. To have close games, to have to battle and to always find some way to win is good. Then you have that confidence. . . We had close games with Montague, Westisle and the one game we had with Morell. A lot of them were close, and it wasn’t like we won by 20. You want those kind of close games. … It was basically, ‘A job well done guys, you deserve that, you have worked hard and performed well all year’.”
