In the quarterfinals, the Summerside Three Oaks Axemen defeated the Morell Marlins (who finished 7-5 in East division play) 58-52 as Cameron Davis scored 23, Justin MacLean 17 and Shawn McKenna 6. Matt McNally paced Morell with 30. Jeremy Coffin added 14 and Ray Walsh 6. Summerside Three Oaks Axemen led 26-18 at the half. The Marlins (coached by Nathan Jay) also included Richard Collier, Daniel Hendricken, Thomas Walsh, Ian Gill, Jordan McNally and Alex Arsenault.
In the semis, the Charlottetown Rural Raiders defeated the Summerside Three Oaks Axemen 64-50 as Steve Walsh scored 26, nabbed 8 boards and pilfered 4 balls. Trent Whitty added 19 points, Matt Cummisky 7 and Keith Estey 6, while nabbing 6 boards and blocking 2 shots. Dan Carson paced Three Oaks with 17 points and 5 boards. Justin MacLean added 12 points, 11 boards and 3 blocks, while Shawn McKenna scored 7. Rural led 38-18 at the half. Walsh scored 14 during a 18-8 Raiders run to start the affair. “We didn’t hit the shots we hit all year,” said Three Oaks coach Ben Schurman told the Summerside Journal-Pioneer. “But we played well to get here and came out and played well the second half. I’m proud of our boys . . . and give credit to Rural, they played really well.”
In the other semi, the Souris Spartans defeated the Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines 77-72 in double—overtime as Marcus Dunphy scored 19 and grabbed 9 boards. Joseph Gallant added 18 and 16 boards. Mitchell Carter scored 17 and nabbed 16 boards. Reece Deveaux scored 16, while Devin Magennis scored 8 and nabbed 6 boards. Chris Trail paced Elmsdale Westisle with 19 and 9 boards. Daniel Gallant scored 13 and Brian Hansen 12, while nabbing 9 boards. Karsten Rogers scored 10, while grabbing 15 boards, while Nick Mazerolle scored 10. Souris led 38-30 at the half. The score was knotted at 62 after regulation play and at 70 after the first overtime. Todd Gallant missed a chance to win it in the first overtime when he missed a pair at the line with 0.5 seconds on the block. Joe Gallant hit one free throw to give Souris a 76-74 lead with 18 seconds remaining. Souris guard Mitchell Carter missed a pair from the line and then Reece Deveaux sealed the win with a free throw.
In the bronze medal match, the Elmsdale Westisle Wolverines defeated the Summerside Three Oaks Axemen 55-44 as Brian Hansen scored 26 points and nabbed 10 boards. Daniel Gallant added 9 points and 5 boards, while Anthony Bernard scored 8 and made 6 steals. Justin MacLean paced the Axemen with 11 points and 9 boards. Cameron Davis scored 9 and Matt Dixon 8, while grabbing 5 boards. Elmsdale Westisle ripped off an 11-2 run to start the second half to take a 12-point lead. But the Axemen responded with a 9-0 run to rally within 44-41 with nine minutes to play.
In the final, the Souris Spartans defeated the Charlottetown Rural Raiders 66-62 as Marcus Dunphy scored 25 and nabbed 11 boards. Reece Deveaux scored 24 and made 6 steals. Joseph Gallant scored 10 and nabbed 14 boards. Trent Whitty led Rural with 20 points. Steve Walsh added 20 and grabbed 11 boards. Matt Cummisky scored 12 and nabbed 8 boards. Souris led 38-25 at the half and extended its margin to 19 in the second half. But Rural rallied to within 54-58 with 2:30 to play and then Matt Cummiskey hit a driving layup and a free throw after being fouled to cut the margin to three. But Marcus Dunphy countered with a critical bucket to ice the win.
