In the semis, the top-seeded Charlottetown Rural Raiders dumped the 4th-seeded Hampshire Bluefield Bobcats 88-56 as Donnie Killorn scored 18 and Hughie Mullally 17. Adam Hood led the Bobcats with 20. Nial Lucock added 12. Rural led 47-28 at the half.

In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Charlottetown Colonel Gray Colonels defeated the 2nd-seeded Summerside Three Oaks Axemen 58-44 as Chad MacDonald scored 15, Ryan Innis 14 and Andrew Large 14. Brian Finniss led the Axemen with 15. Pat LeClerc added 11, Ben Schurman 6 and Mark Richard 6. Colonel Gray led 26-24 at the half. The Axemen failed to score in the final five minutes. “It was just a great basketball game,” commented Gray coach Mike Connolly told the Summerside Journal-Pioneer. “The stands were packed, there was lots of atmosphere and it was what high school basketball is all about.” Axemen coach Mike Leslie said “when you’re up by six or eight points you can certainly play defence with much more confidence than being down and tentative. They became much more aggressive on defence and played with emotion well and we didn’t.” After Axemen Pat LeClerc hit a layup, Chad MacDonald countered with a putback to make it 46-43 and the Colonels defence took command. “We changed our defence to a man-to-man and that seemed to be very effective in terms of putting a little pressure on their shooters,” said Connolly. “It was a different look for them. We had gone to a 1-3-1 zone most of the game and I think they were looking for that down the stretch. … We had a game plan to force them to shoot jump shots and we did. We tried to defend that jump shot and not give them second shots. … I was very pleased with Andrew Large, who in particular had some big shots down the stretch and nailed them . . . no question about it. He’s played really good basketball for us the last two weeks and Ryan Innis has really stepped forward with his game. He was a very big factor with his offensive capabilities and he swept the boards too. I was very pleased with those two guys in particular.” Gray broke to a 19-9 lead. Leslie said “we knew it was going to be a game different than all of the regular-season games. They (playoff games) can’t help but be, I guess. The scoring was down as it would be, the defence was tighter tonight (Thursday) and we just couldn’t seem to get the ball to fall in the hoop. … There was a time in the second half when we were up by five or six (points) and if we made one or two more shots and got our stops at this (defensive) end we could probably close the game out to where we were more comfortable. We came down and missed four open, good looks and after that we started to play defensively (on offence) again and couldn’t make a shot.”

In the bronze medal match, the 2nd-seeded Summerside Three Oaks Axemen defeated the 4th-seeded Hampshire Bluefield Bobcats 77-68. The Bobcats (coached by Darryl Boudreau) included Adam Hood, Niall Lucock, Nathanael Visser, Ian Hillier, Ian Miller, Barrett Macleod, Stephen Hogan, Mike Burger, Tyler Reid, Jeff Dykerman, Andrew MacRae, Roger McDermott, Greg Wile and Tyler Dickieson.

In the final, the top-seeded Charlottetown Rural Raiders defeated the Charlottetown Colonel Gray Colonels 82-47 to earn coach Dale Farrish his fifth provincial title in his final game on the bench. “It’s a happy moment because I’ve been with most of these guys for three years,” Farrish told the Charlottetown Guardian. “It is nice to win the fifth one but I told the guys at the start of the week, ‘I won my championships and I really want you guys to get one. It’s nice for me to win but they are the ones that really need to win one and I’m glad they won it.” Donnie Killorn hit a trey with 11 minutes remaining in the first half to give Rural a 20-15 lead and they never looked back. They led 40-27 at the half and pulled away down the stretch. Ryan Paquet notched 18 for Rural. Donnie Killorn 13, Hugh Mullaly 13, Jeff Rand 8, Jeff Gallant 8 and Cliff MacFarlane 8. Ryan Innis and Kris O’Connell each scored 9 for Colonel Gray. Jeff Connolly added 8.
