In round robin play, held in Regina: …………………………………………………… The Calgary 88s clipped Manitoba 89-84 as Tom Bishop scored 24. Belaineh Deguefe paced Manitoba with 16. …………………………………………………… Regina Shamrock Sports defeated the BC BestEver Selects 103-82 as Jude Kelly scored 22 and Paul Humbert 19. Eli Pasquale led BC with 30. Shamrock coach Ken Murray told the Regina Leader-Post that “I thought Murray Redekopp showing up for the second half was the turning point of the game. He adds size to our line-up and gives our players a more secure feeling. We were in foul trouble and Murray showed up with fresh legs.” BC had led 52-49 at the half. Redekop surfaced for the game at half-time. “Actually, I felt kind of stupid,” he said. “For some reason, I thought the game was going to start at nine o’clock. A guy should know when the game starts. … When I finally got in the game, I had a whole half to get my five fouls, I knew I could go 100% for the whole game and not worry.” Kelly and Mark Redekopp each picked up three fouls in the first half. Murray Redekopp said “we didn’t do a good job on Eli in the first half. But in the second half, we went to more zone and that cut off his penetration. It also strengthened our rebounding. That was our best shooting game of the tournament too.” …………………………………………………… The B.C. BestEver Selects thrashed Manitoba 93-76 as Eli Pasquale scored 31. Martin Riley replied with 23. …………………………………………………… Toronto Estonia pasted B.C. BestEver Selects 123-89 as David Coulthard scored 31 (alternately reported as 25). Eli Pasquale led BC with 23. …………………………………………………… Regina Shamrock Sports defeated Manitoba 61-57 as Mark Redekop scored 18 and Paul Humbert 16. Regina coach Ken Murray told the Regina Leader-Post that “the best part of that game is it’s over and we won. We haven’t played that much together and the glue isn’t there yet. But that was as good a defence as I’ve ever seen a Saskatchewan team play at this tournament. That’s what got us going when we couldn’t find our offence.” Mark Redekopp said his brother Murray has “always been a great defensive player. Tonight our defence won the game for us.” Saskatchewan led 31-23 at the half. Martin Riley led Manitoba with 19. Riley said “the game was there for the taking in the second half. Anybody could have taken over. … We looked like dinosaurs out there. What did we shoot in the first half? Eleven per cent. That’s unbelievable. And we were still in the game. We should have lost by 20. But you have to give them credit. They played tough and made us work for everything we got. They’re big guys and they didn’t play politely. They pound away in there.” Manitoba (coached by Rick Watts) also included Devon Daley, Bob Town, Belaineh Deguefe, Dan Kinaschuk, Brian Twomey, Darryl Rumsey and Wade Bilodeau. …………………………………………………… Toronto Estonia thrashed the Calgary 88s 118-85 as Tony Simms scored 25. …………………………………………………… The Calgary 88s crushed the BC BestEver Selects 116-86 as Tom Bishop scored 27.
