In the final, the top-seeded Amherst Regional Vikettes defeated the Brookfield South Colchester Wolves 48-37 after outscoring their foes 24-8 down the stretch. “I’m so pleased with how the girls responded when they were trailing that way,” Vikettes’ coach Fred Gould told the Amherst Daily News. “We trailed by two at the half and by seven early in the second but a couple of timeouts got the girls refocused and they came back.” Marlon Smith paced the Vikettes with 15. Morgan Lewis added 12, Emily Burke 10, Taylor MacKenzie 9 and Allie Gallagher 2. The Wolves led 22-20 at the half as the Vikettes were cold from the perimeter and were unable to hit the open perimeter jumper. “It was a lot closer than I thought it would be. We played them in the regional tournament and beat them pretty good with only seven players,” Gould said. “It wasn’t a case of over confidence or taking them too lightly, South Colchester showed up to play and put in a great effort.”
